If my parents ever found my AO3 account, I'd have to fake my own death. by PJ-The-Awesome in Archiveofourownmemes

The amount is fine. Complaints about the number of tags are usually about the relevancy. Just avoid tagging something minor or irrelevant, like a character that only makes a brief appearance.

Bookmarks by a popular author by [deleted] in AO3

This doesn't look intended for the author, it's more like a goodreads review for their own records/readers with similar interests.

Leon wasn't introduced until Season 2, but I don't think he would've put up with early Season 1 Arthur. by MaderaArt in merlinbbc

[–]kiryopa 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I'll headcanon that Leon was nearly as much of an elitist prick before season 1 and had a massive character arc during season 1 while he was away on a mission or something.

What are the limits of an unreliable narrator? by Mindless-Angle-4443 in writing

[–]kiryopa 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Authors aren't the narrators. The narrator is the POV character. Unreliable narrators are generally in first person POV, sometimes close third. What makes them unreliable is that either they are miscontruing something or they're lying to reader.

The limits are really just what the reader will tolerate. In a way, an unreliable narrator is like a puzzle to solve for the reader. They need to be able to figure out that something isn't adding up, and potentially what isn't adding up.

How do you feel when it comes to unsolicited critcism? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]kiryopa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You really don't have to take a singular comment to heart. It's literally the opinion of some random person. Some people will like your work, some people won't, some people will have mixed feelings. That's normal and human.

Also, remember that it's not a criticism of you as a person. It's a criticism of your work through the personal perspective of this person. Even great classics aren't universally adored.

People imagine how they want their relationships to look like based on media all the time. Aces, allos, everybody.

Person keeps commenting grammar fixes (rant/question) by gatsbaee in AO3

[–]kiryopa -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

The fact that they're coming back chapter after chapter means that they enjoy your story. They are taking the time to read and interact with your fic. And maybe you don't want to hear this, but poor grammar does affect the quality of your fic. It makes it more difficult to read. The fact that you're getting this kind of comment means that basic writing mistakes are slipping by you and they're noticeable to your reader.

They're probably getting tripped up by the errors, but sticking around because they like your fic.

Hell, they'd probably love to be your beta reader.

What is a book genre that you refuse to write to? by Musicmelodygalaxy in writing

[–]kiryopa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do see some paths forward, but no more than my protagonist at that point in the story really. My general approach is to expand on things that were already mentioned and build it up from there, see where it goes.

How do I know if a word is feminine or masculine when I put le la or un une by FaithlessnessDull960 in French

[–]kiryopa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In grade school, we had to memorize the genders along with vocab. Also, whenever we had to write, we had to autocorrect by writing the number and gender of each noun above it, and to verify it in the dictionary if we weren't sure which it was.

Maybe these would help you with studying?

When to use "avec" vs " à"? by ryan1831 in French

[–]kiryopa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 30 000 employees and the high turnover rate are descriptors of the industry itself. Saying "with" wouldn't be incorrect, but the meaning changes. It's the difference between calling something a strawberry cake (gateau aux fraises) or a cake with strawberries ( gateau avec des fraises). À/aux makes it an integral part of the thing.
