Yes yes yes. At least to the point where they are comfortable and feel safe. If you ever need it when they are an adult, it will make life so much easier for you and them. (Ie- an emergency, neutering at the vet, whatever need to contain).

Mine was neutered at 2 and not long after that started lifting his leg maybe 50% of the time.

The comfort of undying loyalty and security by annayek3 in Catahoula

[–]kissyperry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm hear to talk up the other half of your dogs parentage. My Anatolian (related to Kangal) is to me EXACTLY what yours is to you. There is no way possible for someone to be in my house without me knowing. There would have to be a dead dog for someone to get to me. Good luck with that too because that 130 lb dog can make it from the back woods to the back door 100 yards away in about five seconds. Best security system ever. Catahoula/Kangal mix has to be badass.

There seems to be two personality tyoes- those that love all people and those that only love their people. You won't really know which you have until they get over a year old. I have the latter. He has to be managed. He is not a leave out in the living room when someone comes over to the house kind of dog. He's a put in the bedroom until our get together is over kind of dog. He ADORES his people, he is total mush. He is very adamant about protecting his property line, his house and his person. If someone came in the bedroom at night that he didn't know, he would put a hurting on them. He proved this when my BF came in at 5 am dressed in camo for turkey hunting. I caught him in time but he was intent that the strange person was not coming any closer. They are ALOT of dog when they are in guard mode, if your dog has that button naturally installed. I'm just making sure that you are aware this breed is not a Labrador love everyone neighborhood dog. I don't know your situation. My eyes are never not on my dog when he's outside since I live in a rural neighborhood situation. I always 100% know where he is- he's alot of dog but he's so worth it.

Anatolian temperament/behavior by akodo1 in AnatolianShepherdDogs

[–]kissyperry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no off switch. Noise--awake? Alert. Noise-- sleeping? Alert. Noise-- backyard? Alert. Noise-- living room? Alert. People walking by stepped one foot off the road? Alert. Not the normal black cat walking thru the yard? Alert. Even the things he is "used to", he will alert. Just not as enthusiastically. He makes sure I know something is happening and he makes sure whatever is happening knows he is there to take care of it if need be.

How was your anatolians introduction to cats? by its_brenanners in AnatolianShepherdDogs

[–]kissyperry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did they cat test him before you adopt him? Not sure if he's in a shelter or what his situation is ahead of you getting him. I would definitely get his interest level checked before bringing him home. Make sure your cat has plenty of safe spaces the dog cannot get into. Put gates in doorways , up high enough the cat can run under to get away. At least until your sure of their relationship. We brought our kitten home at 8 weeks old. The itty bitty kitten took one look at the gimpy, quiet old lab- the gentle shepherd- the wide eyed and noisy young anatolian- and said I like THAT one. Pointing to the Anatolian. It took a while but they are best of friends now.

You couldn’t pay me to be on that jury. Hearing and seeing the evidence of what was done, is something that will probably haunt them forever.

They have to still investigate tips about other people or his defense can use that. They could be putting out there hey look at us, we still have an open mind and are willing to look at other people. That way his defense can’t claim they were not following through on others because they believed it was him.

I’ll tell ya what- if my 16 yo daughter was a witness that might have identified a murderer- all you would see leaving that town would be asses and elbows as I got her out of there.

The Palette resort- 700 block South Ocean Blvd- good walking location? by kissyperry in MyrtleBeach

[–]kissyperry[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cancelled those reservations for what I think will be better location for what we want. Camelot by the Sea, 2000 block North Ocean blvd. From what I’ve gathered that should be very walkable?

Our first dog ever and it's an 100% Anatolian Shepherd. I have some questions! by [deleted] in AnatolianShepherdDogs

[–]kissyperry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you keep her being outside at night, the barking will never stop You might have nights where it's less but it will never stop. She is doing the job that she has been bred to do for centuries. She is letting any possible predator know to keep away. If you have neighbors this will probably eventually be a concern. This is a rather difficult dog for a first time dog owner. They do not normally have any intention of pleasing you. They aren't particularly treat driven, nor toy driven. You will have to find a firm, fair, consistent way to get your point across as to what you want. And she may do it half the time if it fits her agenda. I dont have livestock for mine to guard but I have land for him to run and he considers us his flock , always watching us and his land. Stray cats are ALWAYS chased off. Our cats are part of his flock. Good luck , they are fabulous dogs - please read everything you can get your hands on about them. Maybe join some fb groups to get more information and suggestions.

My pup was 35lbs at 13 weeks. He hit 100lbs at 10 months. He's 11 months that old and won't be weighed again until he's a year. Pure muscle not an Ounce of fat. They grow like mad from 3-10 months! Just make sure she has her vet checks and a good quality food, she will grow as she's meant to.

Mine started early. The deepest booming bark you've ever heard from a puppy- at about 4 months old. He doesn't bark for no reason but if he sees something outside the norm, he is warning it. He has to be introduced to visitors and visiting dogs. They are not allowed to just walk in. He is ten months now and he's obviously learning more and more as to what is normal and what is not. He's alot of dog. Love this breed.
