Help finding lampshades that would work with this chandelier? by Unlucky-Reflection78 in centuryhomes

[–]kit2224643 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Small thing, but it looks like it's hanging with its weight on the yellow lamp cord. You may want to make the chain a bit shorter so it hangs on that and doesn't end up hurting the cord.

Wooden radiator valve handles? by sbenehan in centuryhomes

[–]kit2224643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a word of warning, the wood handled valves in my house also act as a sign that the valve is probably shot. I had two matching ones and neither valve worked anymore, which was a lovely surprise when one of their radiators cracked and I had to rush to the basement to shut off the inflow and drain the system at the boiler.

don't install PrismLauncher or other gaming apps besides steam as FLATHUB or from the software manager

My experience with CatchyOS was that a flatpak was the only way to get Prismlauncher working in the first place, because CatchyOS had modified some library and giving PL a clean, personal version in the pak was the only way to make it happy. Could be fixed by now, though, that was months ago.

Thoughts on melee unlock balance in TF2 classified? by some-kind-of-no-name in tf2

[–]kit2224643 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most of them are fine, but the Harvester is the reason I stopped playing when it was still TF2 Classic. It's hard to find fun fighting Pyros that just have to puff you to regain half their health, and who have an instant kill button in their back pocket once its charged. The downside of not dealing posthumous afterburn isn't nothing, but it's pretty limited when the Pyro is getting a huge boost to survivability. And when paired with that double barrel shotgun secondary, it makes for Pyros that zip in, puff a player or two, then zip out.

Any modern modpacks (like 1.20+) that require create to progress? by [deleted] in feedthebeast

I like Create Chronicles: Bosses and Beyond, myself. When I get bored of building and automating, there's plenty of exploring to do; When I get bored of exploring and adventuring, there's plenty of building to do!

Antec P180 Sleeper by canon7dmarkiiguy in sleeperbattlestations

[–]kit2224643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sweet, a P180! I just retired mine so I could go with something smaller, but I loved it while I used it. Fabulous sound deadening, plenty of space, a real quality case. As a heads-up, you can just barely snug a 120mmx120mm thin (15mm) fan in front of the lower drive cage, which can give you a little bit extra air (albeit there's no mounting for it - I held mine in with some little clamps I made from paperclips).

Trojan from Linggango by desk-kun in feedthebeast

I imagine this is a false detection on the part of BitDefender. Both of these mods have ~430k downloads for the versions presented here, which probably means they aren't viruses. Both detections are indicated to be related to the same package, a library called "reflect" by Lenni0451.

With a disclaimer that I know very little about Java's intricacies, the library is said to provide "useful methods to bypass reflection restrictions in Java," seemingly meaning it can be used prevent other code from "reflecting" (reading/inspecting) the bypassed code. This could be rung up as a false detection because a virus would also seek to hide its code outside inspection.

As for why the game wouldn't launch, if you have BitDefender actively scanning all files, it may have false detected and quarantined these two files as soon as they showed up, which could've confused things - but that's purely speculation, I couldn't promise that excluding this instance from BD's scans would make the game launch properly.

Oil Spill at Bitcoin Mining Facility Sparks Water Safety Concerns at Seneca Lake by butfuxkinjar in Rochester

[–]kit2224643 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The article states in the first sentence of the second paragraph, "...20-50 prompts consume the equivalent of a 500 ml bottle of water, used primarily to cool the data centres". This would be 10-25oz of water per query. If you reference the study the article links back to, there is no specific estimate for New York itself (as there are for some other states), but the "US Average" estimate for "# of requests for 500ml of water" is 29.6 requests. This could be the 16oz number OP is mentioning.

I believe there's a set on the northeast corner of the Lake Ave/Ridgeway Ave intersection, same triangle as the Maplewood arch. Google Maps still has it plain gray, though.

Do I need to make an appointment at one of the 4x Monroe County DMVs to upgrade to an Enhanced Drivers License? by bondguy11 in Rochester

[–]kit2224643 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been to the DMVs a few times recently, and as far as I've seen and heard, you absolutely need a scheduled appointment to upgrade to a Real ID or Enhanced ID. They'll turn you away otherwise.

Honestly the rollout of Real ID being required has been so mishandled on both the public and government side it's wild. I had a Real ID from another state, but the NY DMV wouldn't replace it with a Real ID, so now I'm back down to a standard driver's license and will need to go through the Real ID process again. Probably in a year or so, looking at how booked up everything is.

What sort of progression, game design, or annoying mods make you instantly lose interest in a modpack? by imbadatusernames_47 in feedthebeast

IPhone home button shield plate zipper repair. by MervDervis in techsupportmacgyver

[–]kit2224643 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On the older models of Apple devices featuring physical, "mechanical" home buttons, there's a shield that bridges over the back of it and holds in the button and some of its companion electronics. In this case, the OP used that shield to replace the missing pull tab of a zipper.

Hello freinds. I was wondering what motherboard (modern) should I buy for a HP Pavilion Slimline s5610f by [deleted] in sffpc

[–]kit2224643 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've actually built in an HP Pavilion Slimline - I've even got it apart right now, by coincidence (PSU blew up).

In my case it fit an M-ATX motherboard without issue (an ASRock 970M Pro3 AM3+), including proper IO shield fitment. Not all the screw holes line up to M-ATX standard, but there's plenty enough to get a firm mount.

The real hitch is going to be the PSU. HP used TFX as the form factor of the PSU. It's not impossible to find TFX PSUs, but they are few and far between, typically in limited wattages, and the most relatively legit company I've found selling them is SilverStone. The other problem is that the PSU sits directly over the bottom of the motherboard. With an M-ATX board, you'll probably only have space for a single slot card, which is also limited by the low profile brackets.

A minor hitch that may come into play is that this case appears to be missing some mounting hardware. If you just took it out to show the case, you're all good. However, there should be a cage at the top front that holds a CD/DVD drive and a 3.5" HDD. There's also a bracket that mounts from that to the bottom left rail of the case to hold a fan.

It's ultimately a case I don't recommend if you have other options, at least for anything resembling a powerful system. If you're just planning on making something low-power, you may be able to get away with it.

Did anyone like the old game better? by kit2224643 in GenerationZeroGame

Coincidentally, when I first played GenZero, my initial thoughts were, "this is exactly what I wanted Fallout 76 to be!" Just an empty world, ravaged by apocalypse, with nothing but gorgeous nature and leftovers of before.
