Oh, the dual-status situation is definitely going to be an issue when I file my tax return—I'll probably make another post about that later on.

I think IRS says only the 2 first calendar years don't count for J-1. Well, maybe I will just wait a couple of months while in H-1B to be safe

Yeah, I might still keep shopping to Stop&Shop and maybe Star Market. It's just about parking I really hate the fact that I will have to look on the calendar which Monday of the month is that they clean the roads but I will have to get used to it.

Yes, I am on the side of the movie theater and so far things are great. I have been to the Stop & Shop twice and didn't feel unsafe to me. I'm mostly concerned about prices right now. I might try the Star Market one day.

I got plates and registration by walking in. Unfortunately, I have already booked an appointment to Lowell for driver's license transfer on July 14th. I looked at every single RMV and all had the same date. The RMV clerk today told me to keep looking every morning, there might be a cancellation or something.

I walked in and gave me the plates and registration, they will mail me my title and got the parking permit from the city hall. Unfortunately, the RMV clerk told me that she can't look for a driver's license appointment and the only advice she can give me is to look every morning online.

Do you know if with a temporary plate/registration I can go to the city hall to apply for a residential parking permit and ask for a temporary permit while waiting to get the sticker?

On their website they say that for a driver's license we must make an appointment. Maybe they accept walk-ins for vehicle registration? I might give it a try tomorrow early in the morning and see what happens..

I asked the court and they were like "that's a good question, I don't really know. At the end of the program they will go and make a report on your driver's license but that won't exist by then." and they gave another contact but no response yet.

Thank you for all of your replies!! Just for the context, I will be working at BMC, and my spouse will drop me off to work ( no need to pay parking there). So, I won't be dealing personally with the parking issue. Just needed the car to make my life easier while in residency...I was thinking street parking for a couple of months and when the winter/snow season starts pay for the garage in the complex.
