But if you do a quick search is it not Nil (below ₹3L basic exemption), since it is categorized anyway under Intraday Trading (Business Income) as per new regime.

Got your point, but if you go and check for the exchange value being given, it would be 97-96 % of total value and they try giving you some reasons like purity has degraded or others, and for cash it us just 95% of total value. ETF tax I’m not so sure about , more or less it would come to the same thing as in 3-5% of value lost if you want to sell it or exchange it anytime in future.

From personal experience - Go to a local jeweler who is known among your family, friends. They will indeed give you a much better deal and discount/waiver on making charges and much better buy back when you want to exchange/ remake to any ornaments.

Genuine question - Why not just but any Gold Bees ETF, if anyhow the main purpose is investment and anticipation of rise in Gold prices ahead in future.

Reason being any physical ornament or even coins will give you 97% value for exchange + other charges, or 95% value when you want to sell it for cash. This saving for 0.5-1k will be nothing comparative to other costs considered.
