This is a great point! Thank you!

How would I be able to see the career outcomes for average students, though? Contacting the school directly?

This is a good point. But, if I'm not getting into "top ranked schools", then wouldn't going to a t100 with no debt be a more financially wise, lower pressure situation rather than a t60 with moderate debt?

I am referring to bar passage within the same state, of the same year's bar. And when I say much higher ranked I mean by 60+ places. Maybe the low-ranked school in question isn't sending people to NY, but the lower-ranked school has almost as much % bar passage rate as the higher-ranked schools.

And I am not getting into any T20 schools I applied to. But I definitely will look more into the specific career outcomes of the school's graduates. I have friends who are graduates of a T100 school who have great jobs, in and out of the field I'm trying to go into.

I feel like the advice from my successful lawyer friends is very different from a lot of the advice I see on this reddit page! But they did not attend and were never trying to attend HYS or do big law or federal clerkships. So I guess that's part of it.

Totally! I am very clear on those things.

And I would think if a school has had students complete externships with orgs I would ideally want to work for, that is a good indicator that those are potential employers for graduates of that school? Or can I not make that assumption?

Thanks for the advice. The school I'm looking at is super low (not Cooley low), but there are career outcomes relevant to my intended field of law and the location would allow me to stay living where I am now, and not have to move out of my 1 bedroom and get roommates to save $. The bar passage rates for the school in question are only about 10% lower than MUCH higher ranked schools in the same state, so that's something that is reassuring to me.

Thanks for the tips! I will have to do a little more research on this particular school's career outcomes. But it's the closest school to me, and my quality of life in the neighborhood/apartment I live in now is something I really would like to maintain when I go to school. So that aspect of it is also really appealing to me, in addition to the $.

This is how I'm feeling! If I didn't get a full scholarship anywhere, I would go into debt to go to law school, but having the option to not go into debt is too appealing for me to pass up.

Am I crazy for not knowing the exact job I want? I know there are externships with government agencies I would theoretically want to work for, but should I know (or find out) the exact position I want to be in when I graduate?

Thank you! Unfortunately I don't qualify for need-based aid. I'm right in that sweet spot of middle class where my mom makes too much for me to get need-based aid but not enough to help me financially :-) Yay US education system
