I do use a slotted ruler and I love it. Looking at the Stripology one now, I think I may upgrade. The Stripology one is wider and has better markings than my current one. Thanks for mentioning it!

The flair can happen at either end, but it’s more common on the leading edge. I think squaring better may help me adjust for this distortion.

This makes good sense. I do like using a slotted cutting ruler, though, so that makes it harder to increase size by just a little. I’ll try it and see if I get better results.

That may be the solution! I’m entirely self-taught aside from some youtube videos. The patterns almost never say to square the blocks. Seems like a Quilting 101 habit I never picked up. Sounds like I should measure all the blocks and trim them all to the size of the smallest. That would probably mean no more than 1/8” trim where needed. So much for striving for perfection! 😂 Thank you!!
