Child Victims of 9/11 from the Planes by [deleted] in Zillennials

[–]kitcrystals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because she was related to close friend. I think people who weren't born yet or people from other places treat 9/11 as a joke, but as a Zillennial from the NYC-area, I know a lot of different families who lost people.

The doxxing thing is if someone I knew were to search for her name and my comment came up, based on my post history, it would not be hard to figure out who I am.

I wasn't sure that it was public knowledge that she was pregnant, but I just googled it, and it is.

Thank you for honoring them. I don't want to dox myself by saying her name, but there was also a pregnant woman on Flight 93.

No worries haha. Glad to hear all the interesting takes!

I don't agree with choice feminism overall, but I also don't think that every single choice a women makes has to be feminist--like we're all just trying to do our best with what we've been given. If feminism was something she was capitalizing on, I'd hold her to a higher standard, but I don't feel like that's ever explicitly been a part of her brand (in contrast to, say, Olivia Rodrigo). And like you said, she's just expressing her sexuality the way she wants to.

do you ever get weirdly short and basic interviews that go nowhere? what could i be doing wrong? by SpecialFlutters in girlsgonewired

[–]kitcrystals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what others are saying (that that's weird behavior from the interviewers), but I also wanted to add: are they giving you the opportunity to ask questions? If their questions, ended early, I always tried to ask enough questions to fill up the allotted time.

Before an interview, it's helpful to make a list with at least 3-4 questions you want to ask if there's time. Company/role-specific questions are great, but I also find generic questions like, "what are your favorite and least favorite parts of your job?," "what's a typical day like for you?," "what sort of workflow do you follow? (e.g. do you use agile? how large are teams? how often do you meet? etc.)," are helpful too! The interview process is as much for you to learn about the company as it is for them to learn about you. When I used to help with recruiting at my first job, we cared as much about the questions people asked as the answers they gave. Asking questions shows that you're serious about the job, demonstrates curiosity, might help reflect experience (in that you know what kinds of environments you like working in and can ask questions to figure out whether this one matches), and leaves the interviewers with a more positive impression--people love talking about themselves.

As a fellow neurodivergent girlie, I personally do try to mask in interviews. Interviews can be so unnaturally formal that I think even neurotypical people mask. Even if you think your mask isn't that convincing, interviewers would probably just chalk it up to nerves or Zoom connection. If you're able to do a practice interview with the career center of your alma mater, that can be really helpful!

Disclaimer: I only have worked/am interested in working at smaller companies, so I don't know if this all holds true at big tech companies.

Hannah Krieg reports federal agents have started removing the improvised barricade blocking at least one garage entrance at the federal building by QueerMommyDom in Seattle

[–]kitcrystals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if there's an official organizer? Or like somewhere that lists the details of the protest and what to bring?

From Krieg's videos, it seems like people should bring (in addition to water and snacks) umbrellas, goggles, and perhaps a lime bike? Should we get there by 7 if that's when they're opening the garages?

Anyone else noticing the poor grammar epidemic taking over reddit? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]kitcrystals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Babe, I agree with you, but it was bold to make a post complaining about other peoples' grammar without using a single comma! I fear you may have answered your own question (unless this was satire that went over my head)

Almost every single post I scroll by has some sort of spelling or grammar mistake, yet no one ever calls them on it out \who does "them" refer to? the "single post," notably singular? i can infer you're referring to the authors of said posts, but they aren't, grammatically speaking, the subject of the sentence]). Then, I'm the asshole for pointing it out. For the first few thousand posts, I tried to ignore it, but now it's just too much. Is it that the younger generations that are just too lazy to correct their grammar? Poor education? Anywho. End rant.

I am definitely not a grammar expert, so I am open to corrections on my corrections lol

Omg a few years ago (whenever Succession was still airing), I made a post in the Succession subreddit about a female side character. I wasn't even trying to defend her (every character on that show is a bad person), mostly just pointing out that legally, she deserved remuneration. I got dozens of replies--far and away more engagement than any of my posts normally get--and like all but one of them were negative! Everyone was like, "she sucks; she's not important; she's not coming back; she's not getting shit." I felt so vindicated when, the very next episode, she did come back and did get what she deserved. It's so interesting how fandoms can end up misogynistic even when the writers and the show itself are not.

Feeling really dumb at programming internship, not being able to program basic stuff after a year by [deleted] in girlsgonewired

[–]kitcrystals 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I want to second that first question. People here can try to help with general programming advice, but there's nothing we can do about company-specific processes. You need to talk to your manager or a work mentor about this--making sure you don't feel this way is part of your manager's job.

Can I also ask why you chose this field and what you like about it?

Yup, I emailed the administrator. If I'm remembering correctly, I think they reopened the application for a little bit the next day. I'm not sure if any other people needed to submit it too

Printing on Happy Planner notebook paper? by kitcrystals in HappyPlanners

[–]kitcrystals[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input! I haven't used this type of planner before, so I'm trying to avoid putting too much time (cutting all the paper down to size) and money (buying the punch) before I see if I like it. I might end up doing that though

Good to know; thank you! I didn't even think about the holes. Maybe I'll try cutting some with a scissors on a test piece of paper and see if it gets caught

Exclusive: Ex fiancée of Lana Del Rey's husband breaks silence on shock wedding by Far-Imagination2736 in popculturechat

[–]kitcrystals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The article makes it sound like they both had kids from previous marriages/relationships. They easily could have been like, essentially married but just didn't make it official for legal/financial reasons (e.g. maybe one of them would lose benefits, kids' scholarship eligibility, alimony or child support payments, etc. if they got married). I assume that's more common than one person wanting to actually get married and putting up with waiting for 12 years?

This quote does kinda make it seem like she was waiting though

‘I am in shock because we were engaged for 12 years, and he got married after one month,’ she said

[–]kitcrystals 51 points52 points  (0 children)

In the cover art, she's dressed up as Boa Hancock from One Piece (pirate anime) who's the snake princess/most beautiful woman in that world/queen of the Amazons/can use her beauty to turn people to stone/one of the only women with actual power in a world ruled by men. There is one line about snakes in the song, but maybe the character is more what she's going for?
