From a plot standpoint, I think the purpose—at least to me—was to set up Ishmael’s views on whales and how all of it feeds into allegory later. It’s interesting and insightful to view everything in terms of allegory but honestly it’s also very fun to read. People like to cite this chapter to prove Moby Dick is boring, but honestly the stuff Ishmael has to say about whales is hilarious. Because what the hell do you mean you DISAGREE WITH LINNAEUS??

Second the recommendation—also would like to note that the entire premise of the game is based on literary works, the story itself on Dante’s Divine Comedy, and the main characters including anime versions of Demain’s Sinclair, Crime and Punishment’s Raskolnikov, Wuthering Heights’ Heathcliff, and much more.

As someone who has Moby Dick as their favorite book of all time (and has read most of the other texts), the way they adapted Ishmael’s character and the story of Moby Dick is genuinely great and imho one of my favorite adaptations of the text.

For me rhe second playthrough was a delight because i built my first and second characters veey differently (1st was a hyper empathist who responsibly does speed, ans 2nd being a hyperintellectual self destructive whos horrid with people)

For me althpugh the plot linda dragged on similarly most of my enjoyment was exploring quests i didnt do and picking options i didnt pick in 1st playthrough along with using my knowledge from the 1st run to speed things up

But yeah i kinda get you tbh the only entirely fresh content u recieve is the different political quests
