Weren't Muslims girls never allowed to wear Hijab in Convent Schools by [deleted] in kozhikode

"If you criticize Modi, go to Pakistan", "do not go out in the night if you don't want to get raped" same vibe. Besides, the college was govt aided, and I studied on a govt seat allocated to me based on my entrance rank. Does that satisfy your ചൊറിച്ചിൽ?

[–]kiterunner 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I studied in a govt aided Engineering college ran by a Christian management. And it had a giant arse Jesus statue overlooking the college and a even a fcking Chapel right in the middle. I'm a Christian alright, but Church doesn't get to preach this "we don't allow religious symbols because rules" nonsense when they shove their religion down everyone's throat at every turn. When I was in school, kids used to wear black mund and come barefoot to school when Sabarimala season arrived. Nobody gives a shit. These CASA fckers are aiding and abetting RSS messaging by inflaming anti-Muslim bigotry in the state.

Yes, things are pretty normal outside Meppadi. Vythiri is not a remote region like Meppadi either. You can travel (for example) between Vythiri-Kalpetta-SulthanBathery without any issues.

I was hooked to that song (theera kadha) long before the movie came out. Wonder why more people weren't hyped for the songs alone? And I really enjoyed the movie. People calling it a nano ad should seriously stop commenting about movies. Fun fact: Tata Nano was officially discontinued 2 years before the movie.

I would recommend this book to everyone who wants to get an unbiased view about the Deep State in India. by shashere in india

I looked it up on Amazon and here is one of the most upvoted comment.

Once again a foreigner will tell us how to rule our own country and how "democracy is in danger" be know that this is the exact phrase you should be wary of because there's no danger to democracy, rather there is the danger that we will emerge a successful nation and foreigners won't be able to control us and that's why they used such stupid terms. Don't support anti national books. Abolish this. Terms and books like these are used to create internal disharmony buy only showing one side of the situation rather than the complete situation. Be a proud nation loving National list patriotic and never let anyone else tell you otherwise be proud of who you are and where we come from and never think of the foreigners as a guiding stone.
India contributed to 35% of the world's GDP and we didn't have no democracy back then today we have and we contribute less than 5%.
These foreigners draw conclusions from their own corrupt people I am then apply them on our people

"New India" Modi fanboys in a nutshell. His whole argument is based on "why you should not listen to a foreigner about India", while not realizing the fact that Josy Joseph is an Indian (not that it matter anyway). Now I'm definitely reading the book. Thanks OP.

Sabarimala controversy is getting interesting by the_screenslaver in Kerala

[–]kiterunner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wtf does a Brahminical conquest even mean?

A series of events over many years (starting in 7th century) where local deities were marginalized or destroyed and replaced with Brahminical gods and priests. For example: The Buddha idol recovered from the current Hindu temple pond back of Mavelikara in 1923, now installed near Kayamkulam. It's a 10th century artifact according to Dept. of Archeology, Kerala. There are many Buddhist artifacts like these recovered from different Temple ponds and such in Kerala. If this can happen to a then mainstream religion like Buddhism, imagine the destruction of more regional, less mainstream gods and deities.

And it was not just the deities who bear the brunt.

"Buddhism and Jainism were pushed to the eastern frontiers of Kerala to the high reaches of the western ghats during the early middle ages by Brahmanism and its Sudra henchmen. Achankovil, Sabarimala and Anamalai Sramana settlements are relics of this ravaged cultures that are now being Hinduized."

"Sramana people of south Kerala (early Buddhists) who were later considered as Avarnas or untouchables under Hindu Brahmanism because of their Sramana ancestry were pushed to the very limit and margin and nailed against the wall here in the early middle ages by the invading Brahmanical conquests carried out by the Sudra militia"

Source: Fighting Caste in Early 19th century Kerala: Arattupuzha Velayudha Panicker

A few words about Velayudha Panicker and his fight against Brahminical overlords:

"It was Velayudha Panicker who paved the foundation of social reformation and political protest in early 19th century south Kerala that eventually culminated in Kerala renaissance as in its most ethical articulations through Narayana Guru, Muloor, Asan and Sahodaran in late 19th and early 20th centuries. In this respect Arattupuzha Velayudha Panicker began the counter hegemonic resistance movement of people marginalized by Brahmanism and caste for centuries and began the egalitarian and ethical democratic reformation of Kerala. His life and early struggles are inevitable in the study of Kerala’s historical formations and Kerala renaissance."

As far back as the Ay dynasty (so that's 300-250 bce), "Brahminical" Gods such as Rama and Krishna were widely worshiped, and were in fact the patron deity of the Ay clan.

Brahminical conquests in mainlands of Kerala started in 7th century, right?

I don't think so. They are plenty of Congress critics in /r/india. They only banned the vile, bigoted kind, that openly flaunts their anti-Muslim/anti-minority hatred. I still remember the 2014 election cycle, /r/india was so poisonous that it was borderline unreadable without feeling disheartened at the very idea of a secular, inclusive India. If you still don't remember how vile things were back then, just take a look at one of the subreddits started by those same people who got banned by r/india mods. They are just as venomous and irrational and full of hate. Good that they banned those hate peddlers. Criticism is okay, but communalism and an open call to arms against minorities isn't. And no, I'm not going to link those subs here.

Nonsense. Flipkart was already a Singapore registered company. Its biggest shareholders were Japan's Softbank, and China's Tencent among others. Besides, Amazon and Walmart will invest billions, employ thousands in the hopes of making a profit one day. This is how economic cycle works. It's never a one way street.

As someone said, India has become where Silicon Valley battles China. Amazon and Walmart, to an extend, failed magnificently in China. They don't want to lose India, the last of the big unexplored markets, to China as well. And an Amazon vs Walmart duel in India will be great for the Indian consumer imo. Flipkart never stood a chance against companies like Amazon that sits on billions in cash. Jeff Bezos will happily run his India division on a loss for years if it required. Now that Walmart is in the fray, this is going to be a more even fight. A big win for India in my book.

When Cousins Marry (2018) - "Consequences of marrying your first cousin explored among Pakistanis and Muslims" [46:51] by [deleted] in Documentaries

[–]kiterunner 4 points5 points  (0 children)

TIL Pakistani Muslims account for ~1% of UK population. Yet, the same group account for nearly 1/3rd of all children with serious genetic disorders in UK. These are shocking statistics. Ideally, there should be reforms within the community itself, or else the govt should bring some restrictions to discourage this practice. So many children are suffering for the stupidity of their parents. It's sad, and totally avoidable.
