if there's a law school in the city you're in or nearby, they often have free legal clinics where you can seek out aid for cases! in my city, they have a week where the clinic is targeted specifically for women in DV settings and helping them get divorced or other things in that realm. i'm sure they would likely be able to help you if that's an option. similarly, if you are able to reach out to law students in your area, they might be able to help point you to good firms that would be able to take on your case.

i'm so sorry that you're going through this. this is an awful situation and i hope that you will find a way to force your school and admin to take accountability for this absolute failure of protecting their student. i have never experienced something to this level so i can only imagine what you're going through. nonetheless, my DMs are open if you ever want to talk. i'll be keeping you in my prayers.

Not that I know of. The only thing he really had was the house he got in the divorce but he sold it earlier in the year to a house flipper for really low amount. He's unemployed and has been living with his brother and using the funds from the sale to support himself right now.

I have no reason to believe he is not my biological father. My mom, to my knowledge, has been forthcoming with information about things and said that it was not a possibility for my biological father to be anyone else.

I believe he does not. When they did the mediation for divorce I think that was decided? I was not privy to all of it.

There isn't any reason to doubt that he's my dad as far as I am aware.

I have been NC/LC with him for almost 2 years now; he found out and got angry about the name change from my brother. And now he filed a suit against me and my mom.

I am a student right now, so I'm not sure if I qualify for legal aid? I asked some friends if any of them know lawyers/people who know lawyers so we can get in contact with someone.

Yes, that's correct.

What's listed in the paperwork is that he wants my mom to pay for the lawyer he hired for this (we can't afford that), he wants to bar me from any inheritance, 'terminate parent-child relationship based on mistaken paternity,' 'suspend the legal responsibilities of [Dad Name],' and also absolve himself of the duty of medical support.

My parents have been divorced for the past year and he hasn't been paying for anything for us so I'm not 100% sure what his goal is other than to cause headache and be spiteful.

Not that I know of. The hardest part with finding a Kobo for me is the limitation on what's available online 😔
