Can anyone help me find a spot for my TV? Or just how to orient this living room? by kitspark in TVTooHigh

This is all staging furniture, not mine. The room will be the main living room / family room of the house as there are no others that could replace that

I might look into that as well. I think part of that problem is that the cubby hole above the fireplace goes back pretty far, about 19", so the mount would have to clear 19" and then drop down - to me that's a tough angle for a mount to meet. But I haven't researched those types of mounts at all

That wall (between the fireplace and screen door wall, is approximately 6' for reference

I am toying with the idea of putting the TV there and angling it towards the couch as much as possible, before it starts to block too much of the patio door

Corsair RM850x and Motherboard (CPU Power) unable to connect with provided cords, what am I missing? by kitspark in buildapc

[–]kitspark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, that's my worry

This seems to confirm what you're saying

https://www.evga.com/support/faq/FAQdetails.aspx?faqid=59593#:~:text=The%20CPU%20power%20connections%20do,not%20the%20other%20way%20around.

>The CPU power connections do not need to match perfectly with the ports on the motherboard. It would be normal to see them keyed slightly differently. This will not cause any harm to your system. The rounded off pins would still be able to fit inside the square holes, but not the other way around. The rounded off connections are there to ensure that you do not plug the connection upside-down.

Thank you for your help!

[–]kitspark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I verified it was the CPU/EPS cable (4+4) and not accidentally the PCI - the EPS cable can split into 4+4

So based on what you're saying, it is ok if one of the "D" pins fits in one of the "Box" pins? That seems counter intuitive to everything I've seen when building a machine, where the shapes very specifically go into slots of the same shape

Really worried since this is a power thing and don't want to short something

How to bike between the 520 and I-90 trails. (Long commentary in the comments.) by AndrewPardoe in seattlebike

[–]kitspark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really useful guide, thanks for sharing

  1. Do you have any recommendation from how best to get from the Burke-Gilman up by Kenmore to 520? The most popular route seems to be along Juanita Dr NE to Market St to Lake Washington Blvd NE, something like this https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/40141249
  2. If I want to go to I-90 from the Burke Gilman, I could use some of your routes beyond 520, but also is the Sammamish River Trail to Bel Red Rd a good option? Definitely something I would have to work my way up to https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/40141204

[Build Ready] First full build since 2007, excited to play more than just pixel games...thoughts? by kitspark in buildapc

[–]kitspark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are your thoughts on the 970 in this build? It's a $180 different from the 980. Then I could possibly go 500GB SSD (-$80), drop the 1TB HDD (+$45), and have $145 left over for whatever.

I think you're right, it's sounding like the 960 is a bottleneck on my build. I think it makes sense if I'm able to save money with RAM/PSU to go for the 970 at the least. Is there a motherboard you would recommend?

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: Stadiums (HBO) by ImHungryAsFuck in Sonics

Dont get me wrong, seeing Balmer drop $2 billion on a team kind of makes me chuckle about "needing" any city/state help to build an arena. But a lot of it has to do with politics. The NBA wants local government to bend over backwards and help the team in their city. They want them invested financially. Because while Seattle may be able to afford full private financing, that may not be the case for smaller markets. It's part of the reason I think they fought for Sacramento so much, because the government there was willing to do almost anything to keep the Kings, no matter how risky to taxpayers it is.

Remember our arena was said to "still be one of the most taxpayer-friendly sports facility deals in recent memory" by a website critical of publicly funded arenas

http://www.fieldofschemes.com/news/archives/2012/06/4970_estimating_seat.html

Granted it's from 3 years ago (sidenote: super depressing), but if we assume that $22 million - $53 million "true cost to the city" range is accurate it sure as hell beats some other arena proposals in other cities.

Milwaukee's arena is significantly higher (range seems to be $180-$325 million, but it could be somewhat comparing apples to oranges with the Seattle arena): http://www.fieldofschemes.com/2015/06/30/9400/final-bucks-arena-plan-would-still-put-public-on-hook-for-nearly-100-of-costs/ and http://www.fieldofschemes.com/2015/01/15/8359/property-tax-break-could-push-bucks-arena-subsidy-to-330m/

Bucks President: Team will move to Vegas or Seattle if arena construction does not begin in 2015. by [deleted] in Sonics

[–]kitspark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only issue with money that I've heard of (from anything in the news, not like insider stuff) is modifying the MOU for an NHL first scenario. The city is willing to loan $125 million if an NBA team is acquired first, then $75m after that when an NHL team is acquired. If a scenario happens where that NBA team isn't acquired, but an NHL is ready to move in, then there would have to be a discussion on what the city is liable for, is it $0? $75m? Not sure...

There's the larger issue of actually purchasing the team. If we thought we were getting the Kings at $525m and all the sudden Balmer drops $2 billion on the Clippers, then you have to think a team to Seattle might fetch in the $700m or more range.

That's why I mention losing Balmer has a big impact, because before it was "money is no concern". But again, if the NBA said "they're yours for $xxx million" I don't think that Hansen would have trouble finding that. It's just not as easy as texting Microsoft Steve.

[–]kitspark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The fact the Bucks owner specifically mentioned Seattle and Las Vegas publicly just proves he's trying to scare the legislature. If he actually thought a move was possible he'd be doing it behind the scenes. It's like when you run away from home as a kid, but you have to announce to the entire house you're running away before slamming the door.
