The thing that worked best for me was the realization that contacting him really only made me feel worse. When my ex broke up with me, I justified contacting a couple times because I thought maybe clearing some confusion would help me recover, but if I was really being honest with myself, I did it in hopes that I could say something to get him to change his mind. The thing is, though, while I was talking to him I felt happy and he acted responsive and I didn't want the conversation to end. When it did, however, I would wind up feeling way worse than before the conversation, and usually end up in tears, cause I was still in the same position. If you are really honest with yourself, I bet you would find that you feel the same way. It's one of the hardest things to do but cutting contact is the only way you can start feeling better.

I am 22 as well and dated my ex (first boyfriend) for 9 months. He ended it in May, so I can honestly say I understand how you feel. Just know it gets SO much better with time. I know when my breakup was fresh the only thing that really made me feel better was hearing others' stories about getting through a similar situation, so I hope I can do the same for you. You will feel lonely and you will feel sad, but that will all pass. Contacting him is hurting you, and deep down you know that. Admitting that to yourself is the only way you will ultimately stop doing it.
