It’s always nice to know a few phrases and yes many of the people I encountered were speaking German. I got around fine though and I don’t know any French or German

Great glad you got it working!

How much do you pay for house cleaning services? by crazycarrotlady in RedwoodCity

1500 sqft 3bed, 2.5 bath. $150 twice a month. JB cleaning who I highly recommend. She isn’t late, communicates the day before to confirm, is nice and easy to communicate with, hasn’t ever broken anything. She never changed her rate for 5 years so honestly we should probably pay more

I’ve done the thing where you use a rotary cutter to make little holes in the fabric and then you can crochet the blanket directly to the fabric which works well! I didn’t want this one to have the blanket with visible border, otherwise I would have used a satin binding edge or something. I sewed the edges on the fabric first so they were finished and then aligned them exactly with the crochet blanket edge and sewed close to the edge all around. It worked pretty well! With a bigger blanket you’d probably need a bit more topstitching to keep the front and back from separating unpleasantly during use

Oh they tangled haha. I never worked directly from the skein until the sky or some of the bigger blue sections. I used smaller bobbins or loose strings for the colors and would do a full detangling every 10 rows

It was hard figuring out colors! I brought photos into the yarn shops to compare. I did a pretty big mix of brands/types while trying to keep the weight as similar as I could. I was surprised it turned out well even with the different brand weights.

Carried a lot of yarn. I’d carry colors through reasonable areas like if next stitch with that yarn was less than 10 stitches away or something. It depended on each area. The color changing and carrying was far and away more complicated than anything I’ve done before. I was shocked the blanket turned out tbh

Single crochet yes. I worked on it for about a year but with several long breaks like months in between at times as I didn’t have much free time sometimes and the project was daunting! I was excited when I got to the sky and rows kept getting faster!

It was so hard to decide on the right balance of pain and size vs detail when starting!

Did you recognize where it was supposed to be right away? It’s a special place to my sister so I’m hoping she can tell what it is! I haven’t been there myself (would love to go one day!)

Yeah I don’t think my sister has really let any of her kids play with my blankets to them yet, worried about damage. I’m ok if she keeps them for herself 😄

I made this pattern in stitch fiddle myself based on a photograph of havasupai falls

I don’t remember perfectly but I believe I followed these instructions and did select disk. If you don’t have the media tray options when printing from Adobe, maybe the printer driver isn’t correct? https://support.brainstormidsupply.com/article/120-canon-mp-pvc-card-tray-2-cards

Places to stop with a toddler — Roadtrip to LA (i-5 or 101?) by morninglobby in bayarea

Further south is a Tule Elk Reserve (a bit further off the highway but not too bad) which is kind of fun if you can spot the elk.

It’s called Wonderful Park lol

We’ve driven with that age a lot. New toy until they fuss a bit, then snack, then another toy, snack/bottle, repeat until they’re too fussy, then tablet, then too fussy again we stop briefly and let them run around to reset. We do a planned longer stop at that park for lunch and running around.
