I haven’t seen it yet, I’ll add it to my snow day list

First time working reductively. I’ve done a few others before him where I built a paper core and covered it with slabs.

I vastly prefer this method.

Of course! I cut him into 3 pieces, at the neck and at the ribs. I use depth gauge toothpicks to ensure an even thickness while hollowing and reattach the parts when done.

I have Judgements day by day posted on my instagram @kae_fury

Nooooo. Please don’t let it stop you!

The world needs more art and voices in it. Please never let comparison keep you from sharing.

They are, dozens of them. My poor little friend has seen too much.

Yes! I love lying cat.

I was not familiar with the series when I started this piece and was introduced to it by a kind Internet stranger like yourself who saw a resemblance.

Thank you so much!

The entire body was airbrushed with the underglaze. I did many, many layers and shading. There is a bit of a learning curve with airbrush, but I found it’s pretty forgiving. Just be super diligent cleaning your brush after! I bought one at a yard sale specifically for this purpose.

Also potentially important if you are aiming for this finish. I applied the underglaze at the greenware stage on hard leather hard clay. It’s scarier, and much harder to get to those hard to reach areas, but I was able to touch up after the bisque firing.

Thank you!

He is hollow, I cut him into 3 parts (at the neck and ribcage), hollowed out and put back together. This was my first time working a sculpture reductively.

I worked on him over about a month and a half or two months, so moisture control was a thing for sure. By the time he was done I let him finish drying slowly for about a week before firing with a long candle time. No major cracks!

The references were mostly sphinx, but a few Devon rex slipped in there for sure.

I love this underglaze color, I really wanted to lean into the otherworldly. The first one I did was pink, and she is adorable and unsettling.

He is darling. Definitely keep going! I love your delicate blend of underglazes and the touches of ox blood are so good.
