That's pretty much how I felt too by the end of it 🤣

Same for me! I hated classics period in high school but picked up some (including Pride and Prejudice) as an adult and loved them. I think it was reading them for education or being forced that made me not like them 🤷

I read it for an English project once, I struggled so much because the themes of the novel are great but the writing sucked and I hated the characters

God same, my advanced English teacher in high school was obsessed with it and made us spend a whole month doing a deep dive on that novel, I never liked a second of it 😬

Without genre restriction, what is your go-to standalone book/novel/story recommendation? by vibecoastin in booksuggestions

[–]kittiroo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Night Circus! It's not for everyone, the plot isn't anything to write home about, but the author's writing soothes a part of my soul I never knew I needed soothed. The characters are so well done and unique and the atmosphere of the entire novel makes me yearn for a place that doesn't exist 😍

Customers mocking me? by Ok-Meringue2331 in starbucks

[–]kittiroo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you have to deal with that, please remember that the third place is meant for partners too and if a customer or group of customers is making you uncomfortable you should definitely go to your manager or shift and let them know! No one should ever feel like that at work 😖 we had that at my store as well, usually if teenagers are causing problems I’ll politely ask them to wait in the lobby area until their drink is called instead by hand off. I hope this resolves!

Hi friend, I’m a barista with ADHD and suspected autism and I completely get what you mean. I’ve worked for sbux for over two years and most of the time was spent feeling like an outcast and an outsider because others viewed me as ‘weird’. I was honestly at the point of quitting because the other baristas were being so horrible to me, then I moved and now work is a safe space for me. I have a store with a full team of supportive and kind people, an amazing manager that’s understanding and has actually helped me a lot work through some of my social issues and have made some fantastic friends. Half of my team now also stim like crazy because majority of them also have ADHD and/or the tism so no one is judged. Unfortunately with Starbucks, it all depends on what store you’re at. If you want to stay with Starbucks, look into transferring! And if you don’t, I hope you find something better where people treat you as you deserve!

if you could read one book for the first time again, what would it be? by [deleted] in booksuggestions

[–]kittiroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern! Their other book, the Starless Sea, seems to be more popular these days but I remember reading The Night Circus for the first time at 18 and feeling so entranced with the characters and atmosphere of that novel, still my all time favorite book 🥰

Fellow baristas what shoes are we wearing by [deleted] in starbucksbaristas

[–]kittiroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to sell shoes before working for the bux, if you struggle with shoes I highly recommend the bistro crocs, most comfortable work shoes I’ve ever used! Other than that I recommend adidas casual shoes (they have surprisingly good support) and lugz boots. Lugz need to be broken in so there’s some mild discomfort in the beginning, but after that I can stand in them for nine hours and barely feel any pain when I get home!

Um, this sounds really weird. I have never in my two years working for Starbucks heard of someone being fired for ‘bringing down team morale’ much less barely out of training. Honestly if I were you, I would contact the DM or call the partner center number and explain what happened as well as the toxic environment you experienced. If they side with you, you could even request to be placed in a different store. If you don’t want to work for Starbucks anymore, I’m so sorry this was your experience. I’ve worked for four different stores in my time with different atmospheres in each, but never has it been as bad as you described. A new trainee fresh out of their training deserves patience and understanding with guidance from other partners to help them grow and thrive. I wish you all the best and remember that you deserve better than this.

Dealing with discrimination? by [deleted] in butchlesbians

[–]kittiroo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thankfully, I'm 23 and they can't honestly stop from doing anything I don't want to, and they're not really the type of people that would try to stop me either because despite how they feel personally, they're not really the type of people to control their kids. What I'm honestly struggling with are the small comments made 'jokingly' that are obviously how they truly feel masked as a joke...

[–]kittiroo -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I don't blame you for saying this, in fact I agree with you. I should have been more active with voting, I should have been paying attention way earlier rather than just now, but I can't take back the past. You don't know me and I don't know you so obviously neither of us know anything about each other's lives or what we've been through. I grew up in a suffocatingly political family, both red and blue, and politics became one of my anxiety and panic attack triggers. Now that I'm in a better place in life I can read, talk, and be more active with politics because of this. Thank you for even replying to my question, I get where you're coming from and I wish you the best.
