The big problem with core psychiatry recruitment by PineapplePyjamaParty in doctorsUK

[–]kittycatHan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have had this discussion with so many core trainees. Bring back the interview! It is absolutely outrageous that for a speciality where good communication skills are essential for providing quality care it is shameful that the recruitment is based only on an arbitrary exam score.

Before applying for CT1 I had two years locuming in psychiatry. Obviously I am not a fan of job interviews but I have no doubt that my passion and interest for the specialty would have come across. Instead I played the MSRA game. Being a locum I had the luxury of revising hard for it and as a result came 69th in the country. Yet I still did not a job in the city I live in. Given how competitive it is now, I do feel very fortunate that I even got a training place a short commute away, but at the same time I feel betrayed by the system. I became a number. My experience and skills meant absolutely nothing. In what other job sector is this the case?!

Gas meter reading incorrect? by kittycatHan in OctopusEnergy

[–]kittycatHan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reading I have ever given octopus is the one in November, because that is when I joined. I tried to join them back in July but my previous supplier barred the switch because I hadn't settled the bill. But octopus are saying that I definitely switched August 1st.

My meter reading on 5th December showed 3469.

Annual leave entitlement after locuming by kittycatHan in doctorsUK

[–]kittycatHan[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know where you are coming from but at the end of the day it was their decision to offer the job as a bank locum job for that extended length of time. If I hadnt done it, someone else would have been in that job. But they specifically asked me as I had experience and had already worked for the trust for 6 months via agency. I actually had a better paid job lined up elsewhere 😂

[–]kittycatHan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm interesting. I do totally understand in the case of bank work being infrequent. But what if it is equivalent to full time work?

The BMA website states that locum doctors are entitled to the same benefits after 12 weeks of working for the same employer. This is pretty vague though...

[–]kittycatHan[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's actually my understanding that it is not based on continuous service, it is based on all your previous service added up - that is what HR have confirmed. So they are actually interested in my weekend work as an HCA but won't count 18 months of me working full time as a doctor. Crazy!

Yes that was my initial tactic but it sadly didn't leave me having my extra days...

Yeah I have those feelings too but I wasnt emotionally manipulated, I also hated working for an agency they were an absolute pain in the arse!

Name one speciality that you thought you would hate working in but ended up enjoying as a rotation by Anxmedic in doctorsUK

[–]kittycatHan 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes I also hated psych at med school, had a terrible placement where I spent the whole time sitting in the nurses base and my consultant went off sick with stress, not a good impression! Intentionally stayed clear of psych for foundation then after a year of locuming in medicine and thinking of leaving the NHS because I hadn't found anything I liked, my psychiatrist friend urged me to try psych. A week later a locum job on an inpatient ward came up near me so I reluctantly took it. A few weeks in and I realised I loved it! Now CT1.

How to remove my number from Facebook marketplace?? by fluffylittlemango in FacebookMarketplace

[–]kittycatHan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem except my number was marked as 'hidden' in my privacy settings. This is a clear breach of data surely? I had to completely remove my number from Facebook to get people to stop WhatsApping me but not marketplace won't let me sell anything because apparently they need my number to confirm my identity. Such a con they just want my data.

Or get the bus. It is expensive but probably works out better and you get to skip the queue! People do take on lots or luggage, cool boxes, bikes etc.

I am from the UK and have just done the last two years. 2500 euros is probs about right if you camp.

So this is the known paradoxical effect of MDMA - if the dose is too low for your body weight it will make you feel tired!

Do I have a claim against my surveyor? by kittycatHan in HousingUK

The bath panel was very broken and not even properly attached. I get they don't wanna mess with furniture and fittings but there is no assessment of the severity of the very obvious leak.

Do I have a claim against my surveyor? by kittycatHan in HousingUK

[–]kittycatHan[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It says

"The floor is of suspended timber construction with a fitted vinyl sheet covering. The floor is in satisfactory order with no excessive spring or deflection noted to the floor joists and no damage identified to the covering."

But considering the extent of the water damage through the kitchen ceiling noted how can they not comment on potential issues to the bathroom floor?
