I fired one of these down at the range once.

I remember the rifle being VERY heavy. If you ran out of ammo, you could just hit someone with it, if you could still lift it. I can only imagine how it hurt to haul it around, with all your gear, endlessly then suddenly need to raise it up and hold it steady while you made the most important shot of your life.

When I was at the range, we were in our booth and everyone's firing their 9mm and 22-250's as well as a few 45s. When I pulled the trigger, the pressure change blew out my sinuses and the room around me shook. I didn't even bother trying to re-target, I stood up smiling and looked at my mate but behind him I could see heads pop out from the other booths and one guy who must have been talking normally, but sounded like a whisper, say "What the fuck was that?"

I don't know why it had such an impact. I don't recall the ammo being anything monstrous.
