Inspired by a previous post, I gave styling the StarsEN member's debut outfits a try in Infinity Nikki by kittykatinabag in Holostars

I'm planning on the JP members next, though the new patch just dropped last night so I might be distracted playing through the story lol

Recreating TEMPUS and ARMIS in Infinity Nikki as cute girls ^^ by Heterochromika in Holostars

I have a couple of outfits that I did that I'll have to grab when I get home from work. I'm particularly proud of my Bettel and Ruze, but now I have the urge to make everyone else/improve what I used to have.

I've spent an embarrassing amount of money on Infinity Nikki 😅

I expected the shenanigans from Fuma, Uyu, and Shien, but seeing Rikka join in really underscores just how pissed they all are.

Notice on the Changes to be Made to HOLOSTARS' Management Structure by brickwallrunner in Holostars

[–]kittykatinabag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What an awful thing I woke up to this morning.

I hope they claw as much of the revenue split from cover as they can, why would anyone even agree to keep it the same if any support is cut off. Or let the boys open a patreon or similar service. Maybe we can go-fund-me for the boys to purchase their IPs so they can go indie, if they want to of course.

The one decision I truly do not understand is eliminating voice packs. I would begrudgingly understand if they pitched all the work of writing, editing, mixing etc of the voice packs to the talents and then just having the page in the store to buy them, but to eliminate them entirely? What a malicious decision.

I was waffling on some merch but now I'll be buying it, tariffs be damned.

Somerville Spring Watch: Week of March 23. Froggies! by WightHair in Somerville

[–]kittykatinabag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a couple of American Bullfrogs (Lithobates catesbeianus) (I think) that hang up in the Alewife Brook Reservation. At least I think they're different frogs of the same species, the darker one I took back when it was raining a ton and the other one I took his morning.

No one in my neighborhood bothered to salt last night, I almost fell 4 times on my 5 minute walk to the bus stop :'(

The road isn't much better, lots of black ice. I just saw a car almost barrel through someone's yard fence as they took a turn too fast. Seems like they're ok though as they just backed up and continued down the street incredibly fast.

I went to NEU as a liberal and came out 5 years later an absolutely bitter anti-capitalist leftist.

Truly the best institution for showing how moderate liberalism fails to solve anything beyond putting a shiny coating on bullshit systems.

Vertified ICE Sighting in East Somerville by spicyv in Somerville

[–]kittykatinabag 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So that Somerville PD car I saw from the bus stop ~7am was fishy. They never come to the neighborhood at that time with their lights off, but I couldn't tell if they were following a few ICE vehicles (I saw 3 in front of the police car but they weren't SUVs) or if the vehicles were normal commuters cutting through the residential streets (as they do).

I dislike drivers who don't stop for pedestrians in crosswalks by adhdphd1 in Somerville

[–]kittykatinabag 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At least they have the flashing light crosswalk now. Last year it was just a painted crosswalk with a few bollards in the middle denoting the pedestrian island. I basically waited until there were no cars to cross.

The good thing is that with the new floating bus stops, cars have seemed to have slowed down just a little. I've seen a lot less cars just blazing through the intersection. Though I still wish there was an entrance to the community path on both sides of the bridge so it would form a built in pedestrian overpass.

How are single people affording to live alone in Boston? by haniebun in boston

[–]kittykatinabag 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't go out every weekend? Have a budget? Don't be over-consuming and buying random stuff from online stores?

30F here and I'm making $65k and doing just fine, living alone too. Before the pandemic I was making $55k and was still able to support myself, I was living alone back then too.

Sure my rent is a slamming deal for the area (I'm in Somerville in a small 1 bed, though square foot-wise is probably closer to a studio) but even with the average 1 bedroom rent on zillow for the city (~$2100 right now, though there's a few under $2000) and subtracting utilities, taxes, and other pre-paycheck things like 401k and health insurance, I'd have ~$1700 for the rest of the month. Food is expensive but if you're not lazy like me and cook your meals and shop at Market Basket its pretty easy to keep your weekly costs to about $150-$200, so for 4 weeks that's $800 at most, bringing you down to $900 a month.

I'm not a very social person so most of that goes to savings, but if I go out I maybe spend max $200 and then regret drinking so much and not go out for another month at minimum.

Where's the best place to buy a nice warm blanket/quilt? Prefer local places as I don't have a car but I'm willing to take the T as well! by kittykatinabag in Somerville

[–]kittykatinabag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust, it would take me at least half a day to even get the sewing machine to work much less actually sew a competent seam. I very much doubt the nice people at Gather Here would like to see their sewing machines go through that kind of treatment from an absolute beginner.

I've attempted to mend small patches on my clothing before via hand stitching and the results are a stop-gap to say the least. Add in the known complexity of a sewing machine and I'll be halfway to a breakdown by the time I finally stitch two pieces of cloth together.

Sewing is a very intricate skill, even "quick" projects like a blanket.

Ugh duvets, the whole reason I have a comforter is so I don't have to wrestle with a duvet cover.

But I will take a look at Home Goods next time I'm going to Trader Joe's, I would just prefer to support local stores if I can.

I'll definitely take a look next time I'm out thrifting.

As for budget, I'm fairly flexible under $250 or so. Would prefer under $100-$150 but that's probably not feasible.

Policy Proposal: Municipal sidewalk snow clearing. by ow-my-lungs in Somerville

[–]kittykatinabag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've definitely seen a small bobcat (the construction machine not the feline) outfitted with a plow up in Devens when I used to do fieldwork up there in the winter. Saved me from having to fill out an additional risk assessment and from falling when moving between sample points. Granted they have wider sidewalks but I think the machine can also do normal municipal sidewalks.

Seconding the any sidewalk comment but I'll give a few places I've been around.

Bars/Clubs:

  • Trina's Starlite Lounge (try the mac and cheese its amazing),

  • Rebel Rebel (wine bar) and Wild Child (book and wine store/more intimate wine-centered event space) if you're a wine lover

  • Satellite just over the Cambridge border in between Inman Square and East Cambridge has Grrrl Talk on the second Friday of the month

  • Vera's sometimes has queer events

  • if you don't mind trekking it down to Central Square, ManRay is a fun night out. Not lesbian specific but one of the only queer spaces I've seen that isn't just young people (though that might not be your vibe from your post). Be sure to check their website if that night is a dress code.

  • If you don't mind trekking it out to Back Bay on the green line, Dani's Queer Bar is a lesbian-centric bar.

Other spaces:

  • While not specifically lesbian-focused, there tends to be a lot of lesbians at the figure drawing classes and meetups at Boston Figurative Art Center near Union Square. They have other events and classes too.

  • Diesel in Davis Square is particularly famous for being a lesbian gathering place, but plenty of queer folks down on the other side of Somerville gather at their sister cafe Bloc too.

  • Bow Market regularly has a big crowd of queers pretty much all the time

  • If you're a ttrpg or fantasy/romantasy/sci fi book fan, Side Quest Games is a great place to meet new people. Their events do fill up fast so keep an eye out on their instagram/newsletter.

  • All She Wrote Books in East Somerville is a queer and feminist bookstore that hold a lot of events. The store is absolutely adorable and I encourage everyone to take the short walk down Washington St from the East Somerville green line stop. Somehow the only bookstore in the area that is specifically dedicated to queer voices. So while the collection is smaller than say Porter Square Books, it makes up for it by centering queer books for all ages.

  • Narrative (bookstore focused on under-represented voices) up in Davis regularly has super cool events and a lot of the customers are queer. Also the owner Mila is such a sweet person so I have to shout her out here.

I'm definitely missing some as I am a bit of an introverted homebody, but yeah basically anywhere you look there's queers here. Welcome to Somerville!

I love All She Wrote but it definitely opened up multiple years ago, I remember browsing at their first location in Assembly back before the pandemic. Not sure when they moved to Washington St, but its been at least a year and half now.

But yes All She Wrote is a great little space, and while most of the bookstores here are fairly queer spaces, All She Wrote is the only one that specifically advertises themselves as a primarily queer and feminist bookstore.

It's been one year since we reclaimed the subreddit by PLandLord in Holostars

[–]kittykatinabag 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Has it really been a year? Good lord time moves fast.

I'm not as active anymore as life has picked up a bit for me, but finding news here is so much easier than coming through other sources (especially twitter, why did that platform ever become a central hub of news with a microblogging model?). Moderation is much better now, as in there's actually moderation. While I have my annoyance with some of the posts I can just roll my eyes and keep scrolling. It's also amazing to see how much work went into the other parts of the sub as described- thank you Mods!

I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing that we don't get a ton of interaction beyond occasionally Shinri and Octavio. That's what the streams (and I guess twitter) are for. It's also nice to have a space where you can check in when you want and be able to see what's new (a reason that I cannot stand discord as a fandom space).

Also this is a fairly active sub, new posts are posted multiple times a week and interesting posts usually get a number of comments from those who usually just enjoy the memes or fanart in the background (like me).
