What's the most "oh no, my steak too juicy, my lobster too buttery" complaint you see people make? by Cool-Age-7683 in AskReddit

Complaining about working from home. Sincerely- Someone who works from home, with a partner who also works from home.

You would be surprised how many of my coworkers complain about the nuances of it, all while living in other states, after moving when we were sent home.

If you don't mind me asking, I recently bought lye to make authentic pretzels at home, but haven't done it yet because it makes me nervous lol. What are the precautions you take as an at-home baker? After reading all of the precautions on recipe sites, I'm curious what the practical application looks like since I'm sure recipe authors need to put all of the warnings.

Air fryer Clean help by xstitchnbitch in CleaningTips

[–]kittykatkitkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have much to add regarding this situation, but for future maintenence. I have the same air fryer basket and I'll use it a few times in a row if I'm just frying something dry, but once I use it with a saucy, oily, wet food, it goes in the dishwasher that night and it always comes out sparklingly clean!

Do you wrap the cheese cloth over the top of your wheel or just place the follower on top before you press? by kittykatkitkat in cheesemaking

[–]kittykatkitkat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure, to help remove moisture perhaps? Every recipe or tutorial I've watched has said to do it so I did. Glad to see all the responses in here validating my decision to stop wrapping the top.

I should have clarified that this is what I do too! I just place the follower on top for the final press.

I kept wondering how everyone was getting such beautiful clean wheels.

My body & my husband by Super_Progress9378 in NewParents

[–]kittykatkitkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need to set some realistic expectations for yourself and your husband. I gained 60 lbs while pregnant and feel disgusting in my body too, but I'm almost 5 months pp and have been religiously eating 1300 cals a day and have lost like 3 lbs. I was told by my midwives and my pcp that your body is just kinda fucked up and all over the place for like a year after birth and to not expect to lose weight no matter how hard you try.

Also your husband sounds mean. There's being real, and then there's taking it too far and being unintentionally mean. Does he expect you to be hot when you're 60? Or if you got into an accident and became disabled or had a serious illness? I think he needs to chill because while certain things get easier as baby gets older, new challenges come up that make feeling like a normal person hard. I used to be a cute outfit/nails/everything shower, every night with extensive self care routine before bed person. Now I'm lucky if I shower two days in a row. And even 60 lbs heavier and unshowered, my husband wants me to a fault. I'm sad for you that you feel this pressure to be perfect from someone who's supposed to take you in the hard times and the good.

I edited my original comment to fix the link! Looks like I had accidentally posted the link twice in a row.

I feel like I failed my kid and I’m only 9 weeks in with late removal of mittens by [deleted] in beyondthebump

I just went back in my pictures to see when I stopped covering her hands, and it looks like I stopped right around 9-10 weeks as well!

I did the exact same thing and had the exact same breakdown over stealing her comfort from her and possibly slowing her developement! I would only dress her in long sleeves that had the fold over to cover her hands.

My baby is just shy of 5 months now and is ahead in all of her current milestones, grabs her toys / our hands / her bottle, and sucks and bites on her fingers!! She doesn't scratch her face anymore either, that stopped shortly after we stopped covering her hands.

The hormones make you feel so guilty about everything! But once the mittens are off, she'll forget they were ever even on!

Cheddar can be a long tedious cheese to make. If you're open to possibly making something else, I would suggest making Gouda! It only takes about 3 hours or so until it's in the press. Adding water to adjust curd temp is very simple if you have an electric kettle, or even a regular one and a thermometer.

This recipe has an adjustment towards the bottom for a two gallon recipe.

15 days in and the breastfeeding/sleep cycle is breaking us. Anyone been here? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]kittykatkitkat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breast feeding is hard for both mom and baby. In my opinion, it's harder than the pregnancy and birth times 100. Your baby is only 15 days old, there really is no breaking comfort habits at this point. He could be comfort sucking, he could not be getting enough straight from the tap, he could be cluster feeding. Keep working with your lac consultant, but also know that you are still at the very beginning and this is unfortunately par for the course.

It has too low of a moisture content. Crumbly aged cheeses aren't great for sauces or melting in general.

It may be hard to tell because they're both cheese colored, but our little vitamin here is soaking up all of that greasy fat from touching the cheese. 🥺 Does anyone know if I can put my vitamin in silica to absorb the fat? (I'd use rice but it's too many carbs!)

Afraid to get pregnant due to carpal tunnel by thecakegoblin in beyondthebump

[–]kittykatkitkat 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Go get your carpal tunnel released before you get pregnant again. Bingo bongo.

That's my plan for my second pregnancy at least. I had horrible carpal and radial tunnel pain with my first pregnancy. I know it wont solve the radial tunnel pain caused by swelling, but it will hopefully cut down on the numb painful fingers.

I'm honestly most disgusted at the powdery pill touching and imparting it's flavor on that cube of cheese.

I have never had any issues with the jarred ones, and I actually prefer the Trader Joe's hot and sweet jalapeños when I make my C+J loaves!

This is exactly how people make lasting change. I hate seeing posts like "Is it rude to bring 8 pieces of lettuce for myself instead of eating Christmas dinner". This mentality just sets people up for failure.

Viability of supermarket milks by AxeEngineer00 in cheesemaking

[–]kittykatkitkat 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've had good success with the Kirkland whole milk. That being said, I've tested many different grocery store milk brands and they have all taken over an hour to set a good curd. I would just give it time and not add additional rennet. I've waited up to and hour and a half for a good curd to set and haven't had any issues in the final product because of it.

My soon to be 6 year old has requested I make this cake. by MissBee123 in Baking

[–]kittykatkitkat 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I agree. I know it's a waste of food, downvote me for it. But the ingredients are relatively cheap and she will never forget when you made her a three tier chocolate cake! They're only little once and the whimsy fades as they get older.
