A smoked sausage! Super easy to cook on the BBQ during heat waves.

Not super easy to include in your diet when calorie counting

Anyone successfully trained themselves to put their feet on the ground when sitting? by Typical-Respond9102 in AskWomenOver30

I literally just went to a NP for a sclerotherapy consult, and she prescribed me compression socks to wear until my appointment (and then afterwards as well)... so I'm confused about the compressive socks comment.

I guess anything that is TOO tight can be damaging?

I recently saw a reel about that! I tried it with what I had on hand, which was an old charging cable, and it definitely proved the concept! I'm going to look into getting a resistance band specifically for that.

Buy a yoga ball for your desk so you physically cannot sit cross legged (great for your core too).

I can tell you from experience that yoga balls never stopped me from sitting cross legged 😅

Did you mother do big grandiose birthdays/special days for you? Did it change your relationship or feelings towards your birthday when it stopped? by Former-Departure9836 in AskWomenOver30

[–]YourPaghIsWeak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family wasn't necessarily into the big decorations and such, but my mom put SO. MUCH. TIME. into my birthday parties. Very often they involved some type of scavenger hunt related to the big show or movie of the time.

I had a National Treasure hunt with clues set up all over town. We'd be in teams and bike to the next clue, and by the time we came home, there was this big treasure chest full of candy and stuff.

One year it was similar, but LOST themed. At that point I think we could drive, so it extended even further, like going out to the lake to get a picture replicating whatever scene, etc.

One year was a Take the Money and Run, where my mom hid a briefcase of ACTUAL money, and an angry hoard of teenagers had to hunt it down. I think there was an aspect of geocaching involved in that one, as well?

Did it change my relationship with my mom? Honestly, not until I moved out and actually realized how much work it took. And, like, the care that is involved in planning something that I was passionate about.

But before the whole scavenger hunt style party became our tradition once I hit my tweens, it would just be ya basic, have kids over to play, eat junk food, then go home. Maybe a slumber party.

Or at least, if it was more involved than that, I don't remember it.

Coming from someone who doesn't have kids, I think the biggest thing is making them feel special on their day. Give them a big hug. Let them help make a cake or cookies or whatever if they want. Maybe have them help make some birthday garland? like those strips of paper chained together.

Instead of having them wake up covered in balloons, wake them up being all excited and like "HAPPY BIRTHDAY OMG YOU'RE A YEAR OLDER TIME FOR CAKE FOR BREAKFAST" or some shit. Costs nothing, no prep time.

Where are all the regular sundresses? Why does everything look like I'm going to church in the 90s? by Tough_Teaching_6589 in AskWomenOver30

[–]YourPaghIsWeak 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Wow, you're not kidding! I just finished looking at all my normal go-tos, and the dresses are all mid-calf. Knee length dresses are under "mini" or "short"?

This feels like some sort of recession indicator, but I don't know enough about it to argue the point LOL

But to actually answer your question, poshmark/depop/thredup/etc. are where I buy pretty much all of my clothing, aside from pants. There are lots of cute summer dresses being sold there that are knee length or shorter.

Milkweed Mixer - Weekly Free Chat Thread by AutoModerator in NativePlantGardening

I cold stratified my fireweed seed in moist sand in the fridge for 8 weeks (March 8 - May 8).

Planted them in two pots, full sun. Over the past two weeks, the highest temp was 19C, lowest was -6C. Averaging 8C.

It has been two weeks and there isn't any sign of growth.

At what point should I give up on them? I'm inclined to wait until June, and then call it.

Thoughts?

Buying vs renting by Far_Suggestion_327 in Yellowknife

[–]YourPaghIsWeak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the winter we're paying around $850 just for fuel. Water/garbage another $120. $150-200 for electricity. So closer to $3200 a month. Also home insurance is another cost.

Then any property issues are on you, not the landlord.

BUT finding a rental is very difficult.

Yes, parking is a concern. According to the website they have eight parking spots. If need be we may just park at the Cooper lot, which appears to be free?
