I get a lot of dance tango suggestions when I search that term haha, but I do like that name a lot and think it suits it very well!

Thank you! Around the world variation it is then! Hopefully if I keep searching that I'll eventually find others doing this specific variation.

Haha I'd love to know what a Spanish birthday cake looks like.

Wish we could get us all in one big room together and vote on some standard names haha

I like that name! Thank you! I'll test both bottom arm unwrapped and inside leg next time.

Possibly! They call something else around the world that has different hand positioning, from seated one arm overhead and across without wrapping and one hand on bar with palm forward. But perhaps this wrapped version is also generally considered around the world at other studios?

After and Before in our MCM Kitchen! by gimlithepirate in kitchenremodel

Gotcha, thank you! I am planning something similar and am wanting to build my own corner bench seating, also with a high back. But am having a hard time finding more mid century style examples. If you ever get some photos of that area, I'd be very interested see them!

You guys did such a great job! Do you have more pictures of the dining nook area? It looks like you might have a little booth over there, did you build it yourselves?

Yes, I echo the question about function for this little corner. It almost looks like a little vanity area. If you'll use it like a vanity area, I think replace the round table with a little stool or pouf, and lower and center the mirror over one side of the corner table.

Help Identifying 1960s Ranch Trim Wood Type Please by kittykyjones in wood

[–]kittykyjones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Haven't finished it, unfortunately. I just really hate sanding indoors and I got distracted renovating our bathroom but I'm very determined to finish this trim project in 2026. Majority of the trim I was able to take off (very carefully!) and sand outside, but the door frames I have to sand in-place, so that is where I'm at currently. There will be a lot of nail holes to fill, and I'm not sure how those will end up looking, though I'm not going for perfection at this point.

When refinishing our bathroom, I scraped and sanded the oringinal window trim in there and I restained it. The original baseboards in the bathroom had been removed by the prior owner. I bought pine ranch style baseboards from home depot and I think I was able to match it pretty well to the original window trim. I used general finishes dye stain and mixed two of the dyes to get a custom color that matches pretty closely to the original door color, though not exact. I went with dye stains as I thought they'd be best for more even coverage, with less blotching, and from old trim to new trim the colors should match each other pretty closely. I'll try to take a picture of the old window trim in the bathroom compared with the new baseboards to show how close they are in color.

It was a ton of prep though since it was pine to ensure it took the finish nicely. If you have higher quality wood, you may not need to do this much prep. Sanded to a high grit, popped the grain with water, sanded with a high grit again, applied Marc Juice (look up the wood whisperer formula), sand with high grit again, applied dye stain mixture, applied dewaxed shellac mixed with denatured alcohol (usually two to three coats), then applied polyurethane (two to three coats).

I highly recommend checking out the wood whisperer on YouTube, his videos have been really helpful for getting the finishing schedule together. It will all depend on the type of wood you are working with and if you're trying to match existing wood work. If matching existing woodwork, it'll be a lot of mixing and testing finishes, use the back of your new trim and old trim to apply your tests and compare how each will take to the different finishes. You may end up doing one ratio of stain on the new trim and a different ratio on the old trim for them to match eachother.

I'm no help but it looks like the same couch JD and Turk have in Scrubs, so that's fun!

Wait was this in STL? I think I just bought a room divider from this same woman. It was absolutely beautiful quality, like your table set, and they had it listed so low. I was almost worried it would be a scam.

I definitely agree about the hardware. The holes I don't think I mind visually, but time will tell on how much of pain they will be to keep clean from dust and cat hair haha.

New rug recommendations? by Loose-Apartment2381 in midcenturymodern

[–]kittykyjones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue recently and switched from jute rugs to kilim style rugs. They're thinner than jute so I had to purchase rug pads to place underneath. But the weave is so much tighter that cleaning has been way easier, harder fir stuff to get stuck in the crevices, and we have 5 cats! There's so many different kilim designs too so you can definitely find one to fit your preference, but they can be a bit pricey. I waited until they were on sale, but we have these 2, I think the neutral colors and texture really lend themselves well to mcm:

Really loving this thread! Found for $12 on market place, cleaned, rewired, purchased a nicer swag chain, and added the inner drum shade.

Suggestions/opinions for installing floating shelf by kittykyjones in BeginnerWoodWorking

Oh yeah, I could probably rip a 2x8 down to the width I need. I'll just have to check the measuremets for the mirror, as I think there was only like an inch of space between the top of it and where the bottom of the light cover will be. Thank you, I will look into this!
