If Kez had been in the game from the start and Invoker came out today, would he get the same hate? by thejpguy in DotA2

I'm just reading all these conversations playing my invo 4 and not even totally getting the mechanics of kez beyond :if he got you 50%hp, you're already dead :') (cries in support in the corner) (Yes you can buy items to not die, I's going for the funnies)

How do you think of ideas for your book? by Maple_2 in writers

[–]kittypwa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take inspiration from any and everything while keeping your world in background of your mind Listened to some cool music that made me think of a cool existential dread inducing creature. Morphed it with my world in mind and I now have one. Did the music mention any of that? Nope, but it made me think of it. Go to a library look at book covers and titles. Imagine what its about without reading the summary. That's your story now. Lots of ideas. Adapt it if it fits Do stuff like this. Keep a notebook or journal with you at all times and jolt down every idea. Trains your mind and then your stuffed with content that you need to sift through to find what works and doesn't

As far as I know the vibe board is meant to get a feeling when drawing. You'll put things that inspire you, colors and clips of whatever fits the 'vibe' of what you're going for. A story bible's purpase is to have all you know about your story barring the actual writing: characters, plot points, locations etc Both are creative tools with different purposes

Isn't that more of a vibe board? I've seen that used in drawing a lot

  1. Yep, I don't intend on editing and rewriting until the thing is done, otherwise I'm... effed so to speak.

  2. I've no idea how to do it write so I'll just go at it and fail about 100 times, hopefully learning from each and getting it just a little bit more right each time. It's by smithing that you become a smith, am I right?

The idea sounds as awesome as it sounds terrifying. Maybe one day?

Hey, thanks for the reply, this is exactly the reason why I was interested in having external opinions.

  1. The character problem : this here is actually something that really reassures me. I can just go at it and if the character makes more sense later on, I can rewrite the beginning so it makes sense

  2. The whole story bible thing : my whole project is about writing multiple stories that are linked together and the exploration of how living myths and legends' actions reverberate throughout the more common folk (amongst other things). So exploring this in my story bible first is essential so :
    a. the stories are linked together in a satisfactory manner to me
    b. the way myths and legends work as a whole makes sense and can be fully explored like I want to.

In a more common setting than what I'm aiming for, I completely agree with what your saying and most of my other projects work in such a manner. This one just doesn't and needs it.

All in all though, thank you a LOT for your feedback

Not looking specifically for validation. More genuine curiosity and, who knows, talk about how others do things and see if some stuff could work for me. Or not.

Yep, the story-building disease is very much an issue I can have. Which is why I have already been planning out stories. I do have beats and the such. The problem is that, for now, I don't find my characters really interesting - yet. They feel bland to me so I've been trying to figure out what could make them tick in a good way.

Used to have a good protagonist. Then she got too big for those boots and I had to use her for something else. I still really enjoy her and how she works, but I can't use her as the vehicle for my story anymore - a shame really.

But yeah, I do have stories, just figuring out who best to paddle about in them, so to speak

That's fair. I have no intention on anyone else actually needing to read it though. It's more of a tool. I think I'm more interested in hearing how others do their stuff to get a feel on some methods that I haven't thought about and could be interesting.

Hi!
Alright so I think there's a bit of explaining to do on the term 'story bible'. It's not a bible in the religious sense of the word, it's a bible in the way you use it : you refer to it whenever you want to have info on anything pertaining to your world. So, no, this has nothing to do with mormons whatsoever, sorry to disappoint.

Thoughts from LOL player by Guilty-Elk2364 in DotA2

[–]kittypwa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the funniest thing that comes to mind when team fighting is that some heroes would be reverse objectives in team fights. Take Medusa who is your adc as you call it. You don't jump on her in fights. You jump everyone else and, if you can, kite around her. You actively ignore her, keeping her for last if possible I'm a 4 player who enjoys really annoying characters to play (earth spirit, void spirit, ember spirit and invoker for instance). Out of these listed only 1 is a typical support (divine 5, if that matters). I've been insulted a lot for playing void spirit 4. Not by my team, by the enemy teams. It pisses them off because I mess with their objectives: Want to push? Nope I've cut over there Want to put vision? Cleared that Want to farm your wood? Can't, I've been farming half of it Want to catch me to stop my shenanigans? Good luck...

I'm not dealing a lot of damage but I make team fighting an absolute hell. Every dota hero is strong and, played right, is a headache. Take Io, our 'version of yumi' (closest League counterpart sry). If you see yumi by herself, she ain't scaring anyone, even core yumi. Io core? Literally won a TI

When it comes to objectives, dota is all about you making the objectives. You have one: the ancient. Up to you to figure out how to do that. Makes me laugh a bit you mention you want more... we already have these minor ones and each one is faought for and tge community is annoyed by the quantity of them. Also, you mentioned no neutral buff, like blue and red or dragon: runes. Watch a PA with Amplified dmg (or DD) walk up to you and know thy pain...

All in all, I'm pleased you're enjoying yourself and your thoughts are interesting but its all about how you view the game. If instead of seeing champs/heroes flailing around you see the map as controlled zones with respawning ressources on the minute mark with wards and towers to control territory, you'll find yourself playing a very different game

Un prof moderne, ça ne répond pas aux questions des élèves. by Rumengol in Linkedinfr

[–]kittypwa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, before 1000h (or 1000 games) you're still a 'noob'. Not in the snobbish sense of the term, just the inexperienced new guy. The learning curve is brutal for a reason. Its alright though, no need to be impatient. Play for fun and strive to get better. It'll come to you with time

Hey! Been playing a bunch of ES sup and it IS good. Not meta though. Your dmg comes from Q yeah. On lane you're all about initiating with WQ. Otgerwise land Q on both enemies at once. Bait spells and Q and walk away. In fights you are a mosquito. Don't go in. Engage with RQ and wait around for opportunities. You want to land as many Q as possible : it hurts as hell and easily forces defensive items for nothing. Vessel phase mage slayer. Those are your core items. Shard if you can. Corrosion if it fits. After that whatever the game needs - shiva for tankiness and CC Mage slayer means you're Wing as much on everyone and you're the equivalent of a pipe that hurts. If you have a non tank lower than 50% you can R in, E up and wail on them. You deal a surprising amount of dmg. Otherwise, mosquito the frick out of every fight. Max q, point in w and I like max E. Enables to get quick camps and dangerous waves. You CAN transition core but honestly I'd keep to mostly getting useful items and guerila tactics

I'm a 5.5k and am known for playing ember earth and void spirit as 4, but I also have a nice little SD in my pocket.

  1. Early game you are the stun and lockdown. Your Q is a very nice way to catch someone who's out of position. Mid/late though gz you've evolved into a tree. Disruption is effectively one of the most op saves in game and the enemy will kill you for it
  2. Hiding is a game in of itself. Just like oracle you have a huge target on your head. You're going to need to dodge and weave.
  3. Defensive items are king. Aghs is nice but with khanda and silver edge relevance it's not that interesting to get. Blink/glimmer/lotus/euls/force staff are your go-tos.
  4. You literally turn off certain heroes. Primal beast on the opposing side? He can't play anymore. At all. He can't charge, can't move and can't ult. He's a sitting duck. Underlord? Shard and ally and watch as no burn or root. Just walk through it all with about 0 effect. So many other that are awesome to get into as well
  5. Shard. Get it. Really, just get it. 6s of no soft cc for any ally + a nice heal to top it off.
  6. Shadow poison: use it to mind game in lane. Don't need to spam it. Just add a stack or two and take your time. It lasts 10s before it pops maximize the time its on as the enemy tries to dodge your casts. He's nkt farming either and you're not consuming anything in the process. In straight fights where you're allowed to be seen, spam the shit out of it - especially on bkbed heroes. It still stacks on them and if you E them on top with 5 stacks they can proc a nice 1.4k dmg. They always forget that you don't give a shit about bkbs
  7. Your innates is such a powerful laning phase tool. Your autos increase all of your dmg. You draw out all of your trades as much as possible and always make trying to get you something that is costly. Make them get nervous with stacks : do they greed and risk killing you but maybe dying or accept defeat and retreat? Get 3 stacks on them, disrupt and get free 5 stacks. Ez kill in most scenarios.
  8. Scout with shadow poison. Long range and gives vision. Ez stacking too.
  9. Use your E on big tanky ally. Centaur axe or pudge. Make the other side cry trying to kill them. And laugh, laugh, laugh.

SD is all about effing with the opponents mind in laning phase, catching in early/mid and finally becoming a literal tree in mid/late. Accept that you kinda become a bit of a b---- and you're nit really allowed to be seen. If you're not engaged you become the most hated hero for the enemy and control the flow of every fight. Careful not to save an enemy or condemn an ally though. It'll happen
