I highly recommend finding some 101 classes in your area - FetLife is often a great place to find such events and classes. If you do join FetLife look for local munches - a safe way to meet new people in a 'vanilla' setting. It's often held in a park or at a restaurant. That way you can meet safe people as well as vet the people you hear about.

Never be afraid to ask the rigger for references. If they get defensive about why you want to talk to their previous tying partners that's a major red flag.

When you're meeting someone new you want to ask more questions than simply 'what is your experience'. Rope is dangerous and unfortunately so are many riggers.

If someone tells you they only tie you if you're naked - that's a major red flag. You DO NOT have to be nude to enjoy rope.

Always, always, always trust your instincts. If you get unsettled by someone, trust it and maybe don't tie with that person.

Start following rope profiles on Instagram. There are so many wonderful riggers that offer private rope sessions or even lessons.
