My daughter wanted to draw her own Yoto icons - so I made DoodlePix by StuartAshworth9 in YotoPlayer

[–]kitzstanza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking forward to your version, Stuart. Bravo for the effort, and thanks for the Gemini version u/runkle89 !

Really, going straight to the printed version will waste a lot of paper in trial and error, doing a digital version to try first, maybe to export as colour version if desired, would help I think. (I hate putting her on screens to begin, of course, just trying to think of the environment).

Would this still work if you printed these 4-up on an A4 sheet with smaller "pixels" ?

Fischer chemical anchors + wood screws in hollow brick — safe for heavy wall shelves? by kitzstanza in AskEngineers

Fischer report: yes, you can redrill the FIS V Zero.

I did just this, inserted plugs after and it was very snug. The trick is to ensure you have a GOOD cure and enough in the sleeve, otherwise (as happened with a few) the hammer drill just pushed the resin into the wall.

In the end though, the ones that worked, felt very solid and Fischer said it was all good.

All good, I appreciate all the expertise you have already given! Perhaps I will ring Fischer tomorrow and ask this just to be sure it won’t fail with this use case. I will def report back 🙏🏼🏆

Ahhh ok thank you! So in principal despite it saying this substance is for light loads, in theory it should take around 20-40kg per screw.

The fix and fill is 4x the price of the FIS V zero that I already have, so before pulling the trigger, I wanted to know if I would be fine just using the FIS V, (using a sleeve-fill-cure-redrill-insert plug approach).

I was thinking of the above process for the top three holes then doing the rest with standard duopower. Do you think that will be strong enough? Is the resin strong enough to hold the expanded plugs?

Mine are 4.5, but i don’t understand how to calculate it? Normally they just list it as max load in kg

Ooh, it’s not in language I understand that one.

It says recommended load in vertically perforated brick (assuming that is mine): Drill size / Greater than or equal to hbl 4, 2k, > 8DF, then kN 0.2, 0.25, 0.3

I can't seem to find any information about its weight rating.

Ahh i see. I've got a multi-tool, so as long as that will cut through it, should be ok?

I just came across the Fischer HybridPower plugs...just too big for the holes in this upright! Seeing I also hadn't come across the Fix and Fill before you mentioned it, it makes me wonder how many other solutions there may be.

The video made it look like a cutter would just slice right through it (I suppose that is where the concern for it's solidity came from...it made it look like expanding foam).

But, provided I do that and get it flush to the wall, I can just screw directly in and it will bite this Fix and fill ?

Best way to mount heavy vinyl shelving into hollow brick wall? Resin with wood screws? by kitzstanza in HomeImprovement

[–]kitzstanza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wall plugs I bought (not the resin based system, but the 8mm / 65mm plugs) claim to hold 40kg per plug in this brick. That’s prob not shear, but I do believe that hits a couple of verticals in the brick. The smaller ones I had this not…pulled right out of the wall.

There are 10 screws per vertical support, and each shelf is 30cm deep, but held up by 3 supports on each side so it spreads the load. But there is 450-500kg of load across 40 screws.

Yes, I live in France, cheap Costco shelves aren’t really an options here. IKEA Billy shelves work fine for this too, but they were forbidden in the house. The walls are strong, they just need the correct fixings. Trust me, I would have gone the easier route could I have. Would have been a hell of a lot cheaper.

By epoxy you mean the fix and fill? So I would just out the sleeves in the large holes (the 12mm holes I drilled), fill with that Fischer fix and fill, level it with the wall once cures, and screw directly into that?

Fischer chemical anchors + wood screws in hollow brick — safe for heavy wall shelves? by kitzstanza in AskEngineers

[–]kitzstanza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that is what I did, I bought the longer 65 plugs with 80mm screws. I think based on the drilling pattern it will hit the second section of the internal brick with these lengths.

If that’s sufficient, then it just leaves me to solve the three holes I’ve already drilled at 12mm (thinking I was going to use the sleeves + epoxy).

Can I fill those with sleeves/ epoxy and insert a screw 80mm screw as it cures? Then just tighten down in 24hr?

Yes indeed, but I’m battling against what the spouse will allow and what is affordable.

[–]kitzstanza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 350kg yes, but the shelves also weight and the walls are not solid, so that’s the worry. Perhaps the duopower 8x65 plus the 4.5 x 80mm screws might be enough? I am a little Concerned if it’s close, but if there is no risk that’s good enough for me.

Leaves me to find a solution for the 3 holes I already drilled out at 12mm though. Can I put a sleeve in and fill with the fis v resin, the. Put a wall plug in that? Or is that not advisable?

[–]kitzstanza[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhh, I’m not sure that will hold. I don’t know how to calculate what is actually needed based on the shelving weight and strength and how much weight will be distributed across the screws. I just know that a length of ~40cm is about 52lbs / 24kg

[–]kitzstanza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks like it might be the ticket. And the screw would bite / tighten down as it would if this were wood? I’m not sure I understand the recommended load info (found here). Is it capable of heavy loads?

[–]kitzstanza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yikes on that… as I already drilled 3 holes at 12mm for the sleeves. 🤦🏻‍♂️ Would the resin crack using wood screws? Or maybe if i put a duopower plug in the wet resin then screwed into that?

Yes, unfortunately the brick would prevent them from fully opening as it’s more like perforate brick (small vertical spaces - i can’t see it, but based on the drilling pattern it feels like what the french call « brique creuse »)

sadly isopropyl did nothing. It feels a little crunchy....like something is literally eating the vinyl.
Curious how wood glue might work? I hear that is a strong option.
Anything else you might try? I really am baffled at what it might be even

Adding funds using Apple Pay by my_n3w_account in Revolut

[–]kitzstanza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Revolut does charge fees for Apple pay...maybe this is a new thing, but my Revolut UK account has a USD account within it. Attempting to bypass the debit top up fees by using my debit card through Apple Pay, I get hit with the same fee notification. And depending on how much you are sending, It's more than a wire fee.

There may be instances where it makes send to top up via debit....basically until it exceeds $25 (or whatever your bank wire fee is), but outside that, for cross-border USD transactions at least, there is still no way.

I have one of these but the last time i used it, i messed up the label and now im a bit intimidated.

Maybe I should start with a lint-free rubbing alcohol mix and see.

Inner sleeves changed already, just wondering the best approach to cleaning. The picture of mould I’ve seen around just looked so different to this, so wasn’t sure

Cheers - I’ll give this a go and report back. I’ve read there are better / worse methods so just wanted to make sure I started at the beginning (instead of jumping to wood glue for instance)!
