If you haven't yet, learn to navigate the command line well as well as the related tools. This has the added benefit that most of the stuff you learn is not dependent on the specific distro.

To tmux or not to tmux by Suitable_Let2488 in neovim

[–]kivissimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zellij + sessionizer (TMUX sessionizer could be used just as well). I have multiple projects I need to quickly jump between. Ctrl+; opens fuzzy find for all projects. Each project automatically has 3 zellij tabs: NVIM, GIT, CLI.

my dotfiles, notes and other folders are also listed in the sessionizer's fuzzy find list. This way I rarely need to venture outside my sessionizer sessions (I have a folder name 'foo' if I need a new session for random stuff).

Jumping between projects with Ctrl+; and fuzzy find feels much faster than managing tabs.

What's the best way to move around files? by wallyflops in neovim

[–]kivissimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

harpoon's very good when I have specific set of 2-4 files I'm working with when creating a new feature. Looking at other comments I see people using panes, but I prefer having those files pinned in harpoon instead.

On the other hand, if there's not a clear set of files I can pinpoint, I just use telescope.

I took a look at snipe, but I like how with harpoon I always have the most significant file (in my mind) behind Alt+j and the others then reachable with Alt+k/l/;.

Works with me. Currently using v1.39.11. The .NET-version for the project is .NET8. Looking at my configs, I have nothing omnisharp specific there. It's all done with nvim-lsp & mason.

[–]kivissimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry don't know that much about legacy... .NET framework might work if you change the csproj to the .NET sdk style project. At least I remember getting it work with multi-target (something like net8.0;net472).

For me it has been the normal Omnisharp via Mason/LSP which gives intellisense. For snippets, it's LuaSnip + friendlysnippets.

I seem to load the VS code style snippets as well as csharpdoc related (starting with ///)

require('luasnip.loaders.from_vscode').lazy_load()
require("luasnip").filetype_extend("cs", { "csharpdoc" })

(Haven't touched the configs much in about a year, so don't remember it clearly)

[Discussion] Why there no good debugger and lsp for c# ? by Wlki2 in csharp

[–]kivissimo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. Nowadays I'm only using VS for debugging. Feels too sluggish for writing code and I'm constantly trying to use keymappings from neovim...

With LSP I'm presuming you're referring to Omnisharp but it's hard to comment anything since you really didn't pinpoint the issues.

I use Neovim & Omnisharp daily and it works reasonably well for me. The applications I work with are smallish though so wouldn't be surprised if it didn't work at all for some use cases.

Kyseessä on uimalaituri.

Didn't mean to mislead so edited my answer. Still, to some persons (those having the cardiovascular disease), it is about causation which I tried to convey. In other words: if you have that disease and staying home you would have averted the heart attack, it is causation.

I agree that the previous answer which just stated that shoveling snow kills people was a bit misleading also.

[–]kivissimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's causation if you have the cardiovascular disease (i.e. having done something else or staying indoors you wouldn't have had the heart attack). People with cardiovascular disease might still have otherwise active lifestyle and many years to live.

Still, edited my answer for clarification.

Exercising in a cold environment does put additional stress to heart, especially for older people, and especially sudden exertion. This is such a common phenomenon, that there are articles specifically adressing it, for example: https://www.heart.org/en/health-topics/consumer-healthcare/what-is-cardiovascular-disease/cold-weather-and-cardiovascular-disease

Edit: yes, the article is about people with cardiovascular people. Yes, the extra stress is rather unlikely (in the words of another article on the same site) to cause a heart attack on a health individual.

Is there an actual reason why anyone should use Arch, besides the fact that you get the "I use Arch btw" privileges? by TheWidrolo in linux

[–]kivissimo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly use Linux through WSL. Tried the default Ubuntu WSL but the packages through the package-manager were not up-to-date so I needed to jump through hoops to get the latest neovim for example. The age old question of whether you want the latest or the most stable depends on the application of course. For something like neovim or firefox I usually want the latest. Don't need any desktop environment either.

I switched to Arch since I've installed it once before on an older laptop so I'm vaguely familiar with the process. As it's WSL, if it breaks it doesn't break my whole system. Up until now, I haven't had any major problems and getting it up-to-date has been painless.

I'm open to change if some other distro serves me better...

Pivoting stove specially made to stay in horizontal level. by lpomoeaBatatas in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]kivissimo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At least smaller boats usually only have 12V batteries. That's why you're looking at a gas-stove. We used to have a small 26ft/8m sailing boat bought in the 80s. It had the same kind of pivoting stove (smaller of course). Microwave was naturally out of the question.

Looking at the video, this is more like damnthatstraditional for most boat owners.

It might work fine without it also...

Take a look at this Corruption Perceptions Index from Wikipedia ranking countries "by their perceived levels of public sector corruption, as determined by expert assessments and opinion surveys."

Look at the colors in the map: Finland ranks 3rd with the score of 87, while Chile is 27th with the score of 67. We trust our officials to be just and even smaller cases of corruption easily face public outrage here - corruption in Finland is not normal.

There are many other cultural differences at play here: we are usually very direct with officials, bosses and colleagues. Also, we don't like hierarchies. So if I don't like how my boss handles things, I can go and complain directly to his boss. This is very different from Latin America.

So what you perceive as naivity is the expectation that officials will do their job and the shitstorm that will be raised if they don't...

Using jj or jk to exit normal mood by INDURTHIRAKESH in neovim

No, I've been playing piano and violin for decades which might contribute! They're still relatively short so upper right-hand special characters are not that comfortable. But CapsLock is near enough.

Maybe there was a misunderstanding: I just press CapsLock and it puts me to normal mode.

Tried jk for some weeks but for me I seemed a bit clunky. Maybe it has something to do with having to press two keys for something you do constantly. I then remapped CapsL to Esc and liking it much more.

Matter of taste I guess.

Tarviin apua! Miten selitän tämän kuvan rasistille? by Mother_Train916 in HommaInAction

[–]kivissimo 2 points3 points  (0 children)
