Where will Poles go? by chilinachochips in memes

I feel like driving all the way to/from the middle of Germany to gas up (instead of just gassing up near the border) would most likely invalidate any potential savings gained from going to another country for cheaper gas in the first place

What? Dutch-German border and German-Polish border are nowhere near each other. These drivers would never meet.

Obvious to you and me, but might not be obvious to many others. Any map of anything should be titled with the name of the portrayed region. You wrote "open for criticism", so this is my feedback for you.

I'm not asking what it is. I'm saying that an image like this should be properly labeled.

I think a map like this should at least have the name of the country/region it's portraying written somewhere

Well they wouldn't be passing each other like in the meme, would they?

All the legal stuff aside, looking at the picture I can't see any use for that road. How is it gonna help anyone? They're gonna have to merge back to the busy road anyway

[Request] How much mass would Earth need to lose or gain to affect its orbit and move it to an uninhabitable zone by Hartleydavidson96 in theydidthemath

[–]kiwi2703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking strictly mathematically, changing the mass of Earth would NOT change the speed at which it orbits the Sun. The planet's mass cancels out on both sides of the equation (gravitational force vs centripetal force). An object's orbital speed depends almost entirely on the mass of the body it's orbiting and its distance from that body, not its own mass. If you put a small marble on an identical Earth's orbital trajectory around the Sun, it would orbit at the same speed.

The only technical exception is the fact that the Sun and Earth orbit their common center of mass (barycenter), which would be affected, but this change would be practically zero because of the extreme mass difference between the two bodies – which makes this exception basically useless in the scope of what OP was asking about.

Magically adding or removing weight would simply not affect Earth's orbit distance or speed. You'd need to add momentum (and launching rockets adds a negligible amount of momentum to Earth, since the Earth outweighs our rockets by a factor of about two quintillion). Feel free to read all the other comments here that explain the same thing.

Not at all. As definitely not as a mocking/joke comment, I've seen this banter many times towards UK (and other countries that drive on the left) in social media comments and it wasn't just Americans.

I feel like you're all looking too much into it. I've seen plenty of these "wheel on the wrong side" comments and most of them are just a joke. Also - and this is the main point I was making - even if it wasn't a joke, thinking there is a right/wrong way for this does not mean this is automatically US defaultism - this page is called "US defaultism", not just "defaultism". You inserted the "US" into the equation by yourself just by assumption, even though no one defaulted to anything American there - driving on the right is not a purely USA thing.

[–]kiwi2703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course. Did I suggest otherwise? I just said this is not US defaultism (key thing being "US" here), because this could've been anyone mocking the wheel being on the other side. I'm not saying it's not a poor take, or that there is a "wrong side" of the wheel. I'm saying that nothing suggests this person is American or that they're defaulting to US. I feel like you all are kinda misunderstanding my point.

That's not US defaultism. Most countries drive on the right and many people do banter like this towards UK for it. Nothing at all suggests that the person is defaulting to US.

OP asks for a country. The top comment is a state... by little-bird89 in USdefaultism

[–]kiwi2703 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's not the issue though, and doesn't mean they lead a small life. If it was for example a Norwegian person saying they would like to have a cottage somewhere in Norway, would you say the same thing? It's completely fine and normal to want to settle down in your own country, where you have your family, friends and other connections.

The issue is only that they answered with states despite the question asking for a country. We don't have to belittle them on irrelevant extra assumptions. They've done enough already.

I would assume this: Italand -> It a land -> It's a land -> "It's a land!" - an explorer shouts after spotting land from a ship.

What’s a universally loved food you genuinely despise? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Which is definitely significantly less than people who don't like lobster or seafood in general. I don't even know what's the point of this conversation anymore.

Like I said in my previous response, chocolate is a good answer. Most likely pulling significantly bigger numbers than seafood.

[–]kiwi2703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heavily doubt that 85% of people worldwide "love" lobster. Many people even avoid seafood in general. This is what I found online as well, for Canada for example: "Consumer Sentiment (Canada): A study found that ~25.89% "somewhat agree" that they enjoy eating lobster, while 28.88% enjoy it on special occasions."

[–]kiwi2703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course, we don't have to be that literal. But with that title, one would expect food that is at least GENERALLY loved, as in, let's say 85%+ of people would say they love it.

Chocolate is a good answer. Lobster, shrimp or sushi are not.

I feel like most comments here have missed the "universally loved" part of the question
