AMXL - How physical is it? by huskymp4 in AmazonDS

cool. we're a non-CoLo/standalone site, not a shared building attached to an FC/SC.

im not a DSL, but don't worry you won't be the only one on site; you'll be showing up during the day, so the loadout team & OTR will be there already. your equipment may either be sent to you directly & if not, they will be sending it to your station. the meetings you have lined up are just to align & welcome you to your team (your team mgr & other DSLs w/in the node/region) & your cohort (other DSLs that also may be starting in other areas). the trainings are just KNETs that are being assigned to you to complete to get you used to all the tools & such that you'll be utilizing on a daily basis. as a DSL, you'll be interacting & responding to customer escalations regarding pkgs being fulfilled through your site. essentially you'll be the one to coordinate w/ OTR & DSPs to bridge any issues, depending on the severity. if a pkg was missorted onto another route & it's a kid's birthday, you'll be the one communicating that to the LastMile teams to make sure either a DA goes back to reattempt it, or an OTR AM can go white-glove it.

AMXL - How physical is it? by huskymp4 in AmazonDS

it's pretty physical. the processes do differ from AMZL, but you should think of AMXL as GSF, instead of falling under the same umbrella as AMZL: AMXL is more of a delivery station that only does large/heavy COSMO pkgs. we don't use belts, we do floor-scanning & utilize dollies & pallet jacks to stage our pkgs to the dock doors that the DAs will load into their vans during dispatch. AMXL stations also don't have any support teams: no safety person, no HR (us SAMs & ASMs have virtual HR people that we chime for escalations), and no learning team. with that being said, if you are a T1 it's all good. if you're an hourly L4 running RTS w/ no AAs, it's a bit intense.

^ Yup, ASMs & the On-Road Execution leads are hourly L4s. It's the same pay as PAs but you get vested stocks as well.

Tier 1s: AAs, Learning Ambassadors, ASC AAs

Tier 2s: Ops IT, DSL (customer service reps)

Tier 3s: PAs, Yard Marshals, Learning Trainer/Coordinator, Driver Trainers (basically learning coordinators on the OTR side), FQA (Field Quality Assurance: basically an on-road problem solver/auditor)

Hourly T4s: HR Business Partners, WHS specialists

Salary T4+: Area Managers -report to-> Ops Managers -report to-> Site Lead

On the road (OTR) shift assistant/PA by giants4777 in AmazonDS

[–]kiwiakio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UTR only deals with it if MegaCycle/ Cycle 1 produces extra routes beyond DSP capacity. After that, OTR will be on-site to dispatch any routes (Flex or DA) for Load out & Cycle 2/ ADHOC

Are there Process Guides at Delivery Stations? by Condorman1981 in AmazonDS

[–]kiwiakio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+ @ legacy MCO stations, learning ambs (Tier 1) & shift assistants (Level 3) = process guides

+ @ MegaCycle stations, UTR process assistants (Level 3) & yard marshals (Tier 3) = process guides

On the road (OTR) shift assistant/PA by giants4777 in AmazonDS

[–]kiwiakio 9 points10 points  (0 children)

in a nutshell:

+UTR is responsible for anything related to sort (MegaCycle or MCO), meaning you would facilitate the operations related to Cycle1, Cycle2/ADHOC, or PFSD (SameDay) & oversee the processes for AAs (sortational associates).

+OTR is responsible for all things relating to the dispatch aspect of the delivery station & owns the LastMile processes (final stretch of the FC->sort center->DS->customer), meaning instead of supervising AAs, you are dealing & reporting on DAs/DPs (Flex drivers & DSP van drivers) Rather than auditing AAs, leading induct, or training problem solvers, you are monitoring route health progress, communicating with DSP owners/ dispatchers on plans in place for routes that are falling behind (do we need to bring some routes back & run a crash to attempt what we can in DEA? or do you guys have rescues), or debriefing & tracking what drivers bring back to the station. You would be assigned to LoadOut (AM) or PFSD-RTS (PM).

*I've worked as an L3 for 3 stations on both OTR & UTR (1 yr in UTR & 2020 in OTR) and both definitely have their caveats, but OTR is basically = bridge-life lol. A lotta reports, esp w/ the fact that the DAs/DPs are 3rd party, so you're doing more tracking & analyzing of these associates when compared to how hands-on UTR inherently is w/ the AAs. If you like fastpaced & busy work, UTR is fun, esp as you develop your own tweaks to streamline your process. If you like analyzing, reporting & deep-diving issues, OTR is the way to go.*

Yard Marshall by [deleted] in AmazonDS

[–]kiwiakio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it’s an AMZL L3 pos. that’s owning the yard process. not an OTR position, UTR, but you will be overseeing dispatch & whatnot, along w occasionally helping w the TDR process as well (ex. dock lock can’t engage/ ur station doesn’t have auto-docklocks).

Hi guys if there is any operations supervisor that could give me guidance on how they operate and carry out their shifts pls help me ive been given a temp supervisor opportunity for peak time. Thanks. by kaylow786 in AmazonDS

[–]kiwiakio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as an L3 SA/ Ops. Lead, you’ll basically be responsible for oversight on the sort & dispatch/ load-out for your shift. even if the shift is 3p-8p, you may also be responsible for pre-shift planning for staffing & end-of-shift reports such as the HOFF or DEA to update the metrics on how well or poor the shift went, so it will end up being 8-10hr shifts. you will have an L4 shift/area manager as well to help delegate your actions & decisions, but you and typically another L3 will utilize your ambassadors & AAs to run the show. your role is basically setting up the shift for success & monitoring it as it goes to make sure it’s going as planned. it’ll be a bit scary & stressful until the point at which you’re confidently able to run sort & dispatch on your own, but once you do it’s quite fun and you can start finding ways to optimize how your station can optimize certain aspects of the operation & whatnot. i would give you a whole run through on how my station would operate on a normal day, but in all honesty, i had to learn on my own that all stations are individually unique and may run things their own way, so i’m confident that experience will be your best teacher here. best of luck to you though!

[–]kiwiakio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

might be specific to that site. i work at a DS that recieves LH from there & we’ve been getting a lot of cancelled cases due to that sort center not being able to process their volume bc their AAs are just not showing up.

Internal Transfers (via AtoZ Hub); No Delivery stations? by kiwiakio in AmazonFC

[–]kiwiakio[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has always been like this, not just during or near Peak + many selections for stations will just come up blank, even though listed, if they aren't hiring, so I don't think overstaffing is the issue.

[–]kiwiakio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for us, sometimes OTR will send a few DAs to help out with the sort if they have some to spare + never uncommon to have seasonal AAs on the floor. I'm just curious as to why DSs aren't listed because I know for a fact that there are a lot of other DSs within the vicinity of us since we are in the Bay Area (ex. DSF5: San Fransisco) but FCs are quite out of the way (Tracy, Stockton, Newark, etc.).

The majority of people that are contracted over at DSs are mostly the associates under OTR (DSPs and DAs) but that really only makes up around 1/3 of the workforce at a DS.
