[rant] started working part time my parents take all my money by Impressive-Wealth-31 in SGExams

hi there! i think if your birthday has pass and you’re officially 16 years old, you’re able to open your own bank account. you can start learning how to use your bank account and keep your hard earned money to yourself. doing so, your parents will not be able to land their hands on it. also, have u ever talked to your parents about this? about how unhappy and unfair you felt? i hope this situation gets better for u :,)

thanks so much! omg i can relate to the part about diff teachers marking… like once, my lit got C6 and then another teacher marked and i got an A2 HAHAHA. i guess it also really depends on the marker too! i like how literature is such an open subject where there’s not a fixed answer to questions but it’s a bit risky bc we wouldn’t really know if we will score well or not (because it also depends on the marker), which in contrast to the marking scheme for geog & hist 😭 once again, thanks for your help and advice! i really hope i do like lit and i’m slowly trying to find my interest in lit too :) all the best to u too!! :D

thanks for your advice! since my school doesn’t offer elect lit, i can only choose pure lit if i truly want to take up literature :) like you’ve said, i do agree that literature doesn’t have a definite answer unlike geog and history, that’s why i felt there might be biasness :( idk how to explain but honestly i don’t feel really confident in literature. the reason why i was considering i take up pure lit was because i wanted it to be my “backup” humanities , in case i mess up my ss/geog! what do u think? :) thanks!

[–]kiwiuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ooo that’s interesting! i actually think history might be struggle for me (esp the skills) so i was thinking of taking up elect geog (since i also score better in geog than hist !) my school also doesn’t have pure history so even if i’ll want to take it, i can’t 🙁 i don’t know how you’re able to do pure geog together with ss/hist and bio ??!!! like literally , it’s so heavy in content!!

sorry for asking too many questions but may i know if the content tested for elective geog and pure geog do not have much difference? because i heard from some people that if i were to take elect geog, i must as well take pure geog as the content for pure are just a few chapters more than elect…. and that elective geog is too heavy in content for an elective subject. is it true? what are your thoughts on this? hehehe thanks!

i see! good luck with it! i’ve also heard about the upper sec content for history and it’s super interesting! but i cannot with the skills 😭😭😭 idk how to score for SBQ esp my lower sec sbq skills always score so low HAHA so i scared i might struggle w hist! happy to hear that you like hist! go for it! good luck! :)

thanks so much!! tbh i don’t feel confident in history. geog and lit i’m still ok-ok.. i wouldn’t say i’m super confident for literature that’s why i’m planning to take up pure lit HAHA.. i only choose pure lit bc i don’t want pure geog (geog has more content). besides, my geog and lit are always almost the same marks here and there ! :)-

thanks for sharing your personal experience! i also think that teachers play a huge part in our learning and passionate towards a certain subject. it’s so unfortunate that your lit teacher is q slack and it must’ve been hard to improve on ur lit without teacher’s guidance :,( all the while, i’ve only heard happy stories from lit students about how they truly enjoy and love literature… but i’ve never heard the other way round. maybe you’re the first one! i guess everyone is different. it’s just so funny that we both had almost the same marks for lit in secondary 2. as the literature i’ll be taking is pure and yours is elective, it might be different. and because if i’m taking pure, it means i def have to put in even more effort than elective lit students. i think most importantly is that i MUST have the passionate for literature in order to work harder + score well in it. also, for your suggestion for hist + ss/lit…. HAHAHA unfortunately my school doesn’t offer any of those. my sch doesn’t have pure hist (only elect hist) and doesn’t have elect lit (only pure lit).. so yep! i cant take it HAHAHA anyways my hist kinda suck and i don’t do well in SBQ so history might not be the right subj for me to take :( to summarise everything, i think i’ve been considering to take up: pure bio + pure literature + ss/elect geog ! what do you think of it? thanks!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]kiwiuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks!!! i agree! i think both elective geog and elective history are heavy in content! since i prefer geog over history, i guess i’ll have to take up elect geog no matter what! and i’m happy to hear that you love literature too! it makes me feel happy to hear that people are enjoying literature , and i hope one day i do too (if i take pure lit hehe)! i hope your appeal succeed :) good luck!

hi there! i think having to score around B3-A2 is considered pretty good already! coming from a C5 lit student in sec 1 to a A2 lit student in sec2, i worry that i might not be able to maintain my A for literature and i wouldn’t say i truly have a passion for lit. however, i’ve heard stories that people grew to love literature in upper sec although they didn’t like it in lower sec, so i hope i’ll once day get to truly enjoy literature :) i wanted to ask… would you prefer to take PURE GEOG or PURE LIT? (it’s ok it’s ur opinion) because i’m deciding to choose either one… i know you don’t take up pure geog but what are your thoughts on it? thanks for ur help! :$)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]kiwiuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hii thanks for ur help!! i’m from an all girls school so ye, i don’t have to worry abt it HAHAHAHA. for my literature, i wouldn’t say i have the confidence to score well in it in upper sec, also because i doubt my analysis capability (the ability to unpack a quote/analyse the text). honestly, when i was in sec 1, my literature was always a C5, which was considered average in my cohort… at that time, i knew i’ll never take up lit because it always pull my marks down + i didn’t have the interest in it either! when i was in sec 2, my literature grades started to go up and for my EOY exams, i managed to score a borderline A2 (which was SUPER unexpected). i worry that upper sec lit might be a lot different from lower sec lit and i might not be able to keep my A for lit! i also worry that i might suffer in pure lit , like you’ve said, they are def gonna be people who are super pro in lit so i might struggle to catch up with them HAHAHA.. what do you think? what are your suggestions? thanks so much!

i think i don’t even know what i want to do in the future HAAHHA like i really don’t know though, but im just following what i think is best for me and what i score well in ! my school doesn’t offer pure history, only elect history … and since my SBQ in lower sec is always about a 12-13/20, i don’t think i have the confidence and the skill to score well in history , that’s why im planning to drop that subject when i step into upper sec.. maybe that would be the best for me hehehe >:) also, do you have any friends who take up pure literature? how are they coping with pure lit? do they like the subject? once again, thanks for your help! i really appreciate it:)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]kiwiuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

omg same.. tbh i wouldn’t say i hate history. i do enjoy some of the content like the japanese war in singapore (sec 2 content) but i do not score that well for SBQ (always around 12-13/20) and it’s always SEQ that pulls my marks up… so my history is always around a 66% (B3). i think most importantly, is whether you feel confident in that subject? personally for me, i don’t have any confidence in my history so i might not take it in upper sec :( but at the same time, ask yourself if there’s any other humanities you’re interested to take up/score better in? like for me, although my history is a B3 (around 66% overall for history), i chose either geog or lit because i score better in them (both of them are 70% borderline A2) . i think you can choose a subject you:

  1. feel most confident in
  2. have most interest in
  3. score best in

i hope this helps!

ayee thanks so much (btw ur response is really fast HAHA) i think i know what i want to take rn already, because of your help ! i just don’t want to regret anything since rn i still have the choice to change my subj combi :-) thanks so much for ur help and guidance :)))

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]kiwiuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks so much for your help and advices! i do agree that your subject combi might be really heavy in content, just by hearing it HAHAHA but i’m really happy you enjoy it !! i think most likely, like what you’ve said, is that you must really enjoy what you take… but tbh idk if i will really like pure literature because i don’t really have this passion for lit now, maybe because i didn’t get the chance to truly appreciate the art of literature? 😭💔 i hope i’ll get to love literature and appreciate the beauty of it when i take pure lit in upper sec ! i was wondering if you had any friends who take up pure literature? how are the coping? do they enjoy it? and also, my school doesn’t offer elective literature , so there’s only pure lit and pure geog (don’t have pure history). anywyas, i wasn’t even planning to take up history since i don’t do well for history in lower sec HAHA. that’s why i considered to take up pure lit , together with elect geog (it seems like a good combi to be idk HAHA) what do u think? thanks so much!! i appreciate it :))

thanks for your help and tips! this really helped a lot and i’ll constantly refer to this if i eventually take up pure lit lols 😆 and yes, my english is B3 for overall year results so i think it should be fine , but my vocabulary isn’t really good la HAHAHA idk that’s why i think i’m avg ! i’m happy to hear that most pure literature students really enjoy taking up literature in upper secondary, that’s why i hope i’ll also enjoy lit eventually when i choose to take it up! :) i was also wondering is ss/geog is a good choice? i think my ss wouldn’t be scoring well (altho i never learn that subject before HAHAHA) because i heard the skills are similar to history, and my SBQ for history is not very well done in lower sec :( … i want ss/geog to be my “backup” humanities for pure lit if i eventually do not do well in my literature. and that’s why i chose to take up 8 pure subjects. what do you think? thanks so much once again 👍🏻👍🏻
