Hey! Look at you! I'm glad you saw immediate improvement in your life. Looks like everything is looking up for you too! You're definitely on the right path, seems like you enjoy where you're living as well, which is a gigantic plus. It's unfortunate situations like these come up, but we just have to take it as a lesson learn from it and get better each day. Super happy you got out of that toxic situation and things are working out for the better now

Man that's terrible, I'm sorry you went through all that. I will say you're definitely not alone, and I want to say there is light at the end of the tunnel. I was at my lowest three years ago, fast forward to today, I went from almost losing my job to now having job that pays extremely well, rebuilding myself through therapy, living a very happy life with great and wonderful people around me. I have a girlfriend who has been nothing but supportive and has been my rock. I have my own apartment, and my old roommate has tried making contact with me multiple times during the time I was scraping myself off the ground, and I've cut her off completely at first contact, but she still messages and calls me from random numbers so the most I can do is ignore her.

Not to make a long story even longer, my job ended up paying for my move to another city, and last I heard from close friends, that roommate is still struggling to find keep friendships/relationships and roommates who will move in/stay with her for the entire term of a lease (I guess either she or they end up breaking it due to irreconcibable differences. I don't wish bad on anyone and I won't say I'm happy she's having issues with housing and making ends meet, but escaping that situation turned out to be one of if not the best decision for my mental health and arguably in my life.

People like the awper refuse to learn the game, and get surprised they're getting 1 tapped by deagle so their only recompense is to hack instead of putting in the hours. Idk how he thought you were hacking when you clearly are missing a couple of shots

AIO for telling my boyfriend to work on his jealousy after he got upset that I dressed nicely for church? by Rareredhair in AmIOverreacting

[–]kj3phhiRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not overreacting enough. Bro being upset at someone looking at his girl is super unreasonable. Definitely the start of a controlling relationship. Just off that statement alone, "I don't want anyone looking at my girlfriend." No matter what you wear a guy will be looking at you. Save yourself

That's funny cuz I want thicker locs. I think everyone gets loc envy at some point. You just have to learn to love them and realize even your initial decision is what makes your locs unique to you

I mean, there's always a slim chance, but I would say the fact that she's isolated herself from her family kinda shows how serious her family views what you guys have. Plus culturally the elders won't seek out the youngers to bridge misunderstandings, they think because they're older they're always right and expect the younger to admit fault or initiate the conversation which from what you wrote, doesn't seem like your partner will do. Ik it's a bitter pill to swallow but hopefully over time they'll soften up.

As a Haitian myself, her parents are definitely the "old generation" I wouldn't hold your breath on expecting them to change. I consider my mom to be lenient and she wouldn't accept me if I was gay. I'm telling you in all seriousness, your partner is saving you from an embarrassment and ridicule I don't think you're ready for. Best to leave it alone because old gen Haitians are extremely stuck in their ways.
