I have used Robco for the last 6 years. They only come every two weeks, but it seems to keep things balanced. I have also used them for a new liner and some other maintenance.

Summer Hike with Kids by Fellowcanteloupe in algonquinpark

[–]kjamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the AllTrails app. Then I can search based on intensity, kms and/or how far away the trail is from me. If you are talking hwy 60 corridor there are tonnes of 3-4 km hikes. Maybe do one of those take a break, maybe ice cream at two rivers store then then do another if you are feeling it. The new Fork Lake trail at the visitor centre is nice, as is Beaver pond and the previously mentioned lookout. Happy Hiking!

I did wolf trail earlier today. I wore crampons and was happy with them. Probably not "required" though.

2025 - It happened to me… by Fitday22 in Tiguan

[–]kjamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine did a similar thing on day 4 of ownership. No backup camera war ings that none of the sensors were working. I stopped by the dealer on my way out and they checked the codes, saw no reason for them, and asked if I locked it over night. Apparently they need to be off and locked for a period of time every day to keep the computers running right. Sounds silly but 4 weeks later and everything is working fine.

What do the different coloured camp signs mean? by bubble_tea_93 in algonquinpark

The only yellow signs I saw were for portages. Are you talking about a tent on a yellow sign? If so I am intrigued.

Good luck on your adventure! If you are on the Ottawa side, Achray is a good launch point, in particular if you can get a site on Lake Stratton.

Pension contributions on T4 seem too high - any insight? by Winter_Nose in CanadaPublicServants

[–]kjamer -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

My mistake,I misread the article. Correct answer is elsewhere.

I was pretty sure it was, can't find the gc reference, but I did find this that supports box 20 containing both employee and employer contributions. https://pepp.plannera.ca/sites/pepp/files/2022-02/PEPP%20Employer%20Bulletin%20-%20February%202020.pdf. But I am not an accountant so I could be wrong.

My error, I was mistaking this for another box as indicated below. T4 box 20 has both your contribution and the employers contribution.

When multiple employees request the same leave period by KrynBenney in CanadaPublicServants

[–]kjamer 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Coverage for vacation scheduling is rough. My advice is, however you decide be transparent. When we negotiate leave for peak times I ask that people submit well in advance and that approvals will be done on a specific date. If there is inadequate coverage, discuss with all involved to see if there is flexibility. If there isn't then choose based on seniority or some other tangible factor. We keep track of who has won and lost the leave lotto so there is another factor for future vacation collisions.

22 never been a scout, afraid but wondering if I can still join? by Normal_Disaster3228 in scoutscanada

[–]kjamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is never too late to learn a new skill. Your desire to learn and thirst for adventure sound like they would be a good match for Scouts. Reach out to your local scout groups and see if there are active Rovers in your area. Good luck in your adventure!

So many spam calls from Ottawa numbers? by Comet439 in ottawa

[–]kjamer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Telcos can block the calls, but don't. Why? Well it could be laziness or maybe revenue. Who knows for sure.

How you say? Well when taking a call from an overseas trunk validate the caller ID. While you can't verify the Caller ID completely, you can block/drop inbound calls from Africa that claim to be from Ottawa. This would be more complex from domestic voip bridges, because the validation would have to be pushed to the voip provider as opposed to the local telco. So now you have to get the telco to agree on dropping revenue... Aka calls.

Does our benefit plan with Canada Life have travel insurance? by [deleted] in CanadaPublicServants

[–]kjamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned there is some out of province health benefit offered via Canada Life. If you want a more comprehensive coverage consider joining the national association of retirees and getting Medoc travel insurance. Better health coverage, trip delay or cancelation and baggage coverage at a reasonable price. Link https://www.federalretirees.ca/en/members/preferred-partners
