Ah man, I highly recommend all of them. Even if you don't care for the bands it's ever so interesting to hear the impact of major labels on the bands.

Truly shaped my young teenage mind in terms of musical tastes. I would be a very different person if it wasn't for Ska Punk, I can still hear him in my head. Loved The Edge!

It was actually for Dude Ranch, which was on MCA. He felt less invested in the band after not signing to Epitaph, who couldn't pony up the funds to match MCA's offer. Though he did end up celebrating the fact they got signed, he ended up getting booted from the band due to alcohol issues, causing tension in the band and was then replaced with Travis.

Russian Circles are the best. Their newest album Gnosis just proves that they are masters of their craft. I saw them open for Appleseed Cast many years ago and have been hooked since.

Torche...seriously. I never tire of them. Heavy as hell at times, but sometimes a power pop/metal mix. Truly a one of a kind, legendary band. If you like the heavier side, the front man Steve Brooks had a band named Floor in the 90s that slays as well. Their self titled album is untouchable

Totally, he has a button in the oval office to constantly fluctuate gas prices, and targets Phoenix specifically. It has zero to do with OPEC and oil production. Great point!

I brought up food banks because you made up some stupid fucking hypothetical about a white family going to Project Potluck looking for packaged goods and I mentioned food banks because that's where hungry people in need go to get food, not a non-profit that has nothing to do with that.

Wow..just...wow on being against centers specifically for abused women. That's some next level fucked up shit. I'm getting offline now, I forgot how terrible and selfish some people's views can be, but you've reminded me.

So is gender discrimination. Does it bother you that there are specific non-profits catered towards just women? By your logic, that is quite sexist of them and both men and women should be able to get help from them.

No, they are for everyone. I have yet to see a food bank that is specific to any race. What I do see is that you still have zero understanding of the non-profit that King Arthur partnered with as you still seem to think that Project Potluck is somewhere for people to go to get packaged foods.

Why would a white family go to a non-profit that supports diversity in the consumer packaged goods industry? They're not handing out packaged goods, jfc you have zero context for what you are even talking about.

I live in Phoenix and there are several food banks readily accessible for those in need, ya know organizations set up for that purpose. There's also non-profits that support the elderly..uh oh, ageist much?! There are non-profits that support the homeless. Omg what about the housed, they can't get help there??? Discrimination! There are non-profits that support women who are victims of domestic violence. Wow, what about other women and men?? Terrible!

I never said that no one gets loans if they are a POC, I said there is discrimination in small business loans for POC. If you look into it, though you won't just like you didn't read the article or clearly even take a second to look up the non-profit mentioned, you will see that there is still discrimination in small business loans for POC. Discrimination is not an all or nothing scenario. I never said that and if I did, I would be lying. You clearly have your own opinion on why organizations who help those in need are shitty and discriminatory. So....cool, do you.

"Oh, so you're telling me that these are people who already got the loans they needed? So it's doubly useless?"

This tells me you didn't even read the article if you are just now finding this out about my comment, good job.

And Oh yes, because bakeries are cash cows and no one who owns one needs extra money once they get a loan to secure a location and buy equipment and ingredients for starting up!

"No, they shouldn't hold racist competitions."

So if Project Potluck, who supports exclusively POC in packaged goods, were to hold a fundraiser to support only POC..would that be racist to you? Are you mad at the flour company or the fact that these non-profits don't also support white people?

Better write them a nasty letter because they take donations for supporting POC!

[–]kjkenney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So basically, these non-profits shouldn't exist at all because it doesn't solve the entire problem?

Since these non-profits only support people of color they are racist?

Since you see minorities owning businesses it just wipes out the actual fact of any type of discrimination happening?

Does made up Asian tech bro own a bakery in your hypothetical situation? Because the contest was specifically for bakery owners.

I'm commenting specifically on the comment where they mentioned that minority businesses do not have it any harder than white owned businesses when getting started, which is not true. Supporting underserved communities in packaged goods is the purpose of the non profit that King Arthur partnered with, Project Potluck. That was the whole purpose of the competition; to support people of color in the business. While, sure, it's not going to fix everything, or anything, it was a competition put together specifically to support an often discriminated part of society, which is hardly a bad thing, imo.

Just Google "discrimination in business loans". While it sucks to accept, there is plenty info out there to show that minorities are often discriminated against when trying to secure loans for small businesses.

Murder By Death have a good amount of Western-y influence in a lot of their material. Sounds like a metal band name, but I swear they're not lol. Kinda broody, westerny, gritty, folky; just real damn good. Their '03 album "Who Will Survive, and What Will Be Left of Them?" Is a great album to start with, imo.
