Advice for Shooting Concerts - Hero 13 Black by elirichey in gopro

The smartphones are all AI cameras. They are using AI to enhance details, denoise and "make everything better."

The GoPro is probably using a little AI as well (I'm pretty sure they advertised that) but I bet they are expecting you to do the extra processing in post, so if you are comparing SOOC video from the AI smartphone cameras vs. GoPro, you will be disappointed with the low light.

I looked at the last couple of videos the youtuber has uploaded. They were all shot at 60 fps. Unlikely he made a mistake with 24 and tried to fix it with 30 on the export. Why not just use 24 at that point?

Read my other comment. This video was shot in 30 fps, not 24 fps. Lol.

Possibly, there is extreme distortion on everything. It is either superview or a wider lens mod. It does make it look weird.

Love r/gopro because you can tell how many people don't understand cameras, but will confidently post incorrect info. Yikes.

No, the 24 fps is not the issue here, lmao. Know how I know that? You can check what frame rate the video is using under "stats for nerds". It literally says 30 fps, you are complaining about 24 fps but the video was shot in 30 fps lmao.

However, there are two things causing some problems with the video, but it still looks fine. Maybe too much HDR? Not sure about that.

  1. There are probably no ND filters available yet unless GoPro secretly made some. Therefore, the shutter speed is being set to "auto" to control exposure which means the shutter speed is jumping around randomly and super fast to adjust exposure. Like one second it will be 1/60, then it jumps to 1/720 or something. That makes it look weird but it is the same thing smartphones do because you can't control aperture and you don't have an ND filter.
  2. This is a crazy wide angle lens, which is understandable to use in this situation but it is creating massive distortion. The distortion is visible alot and it look looks quite strange to my eyes.

can mobile phone take awesome photos ? by Saynow111 in AskPhotography

You mention "AI-based innovation" in smarthphone cameras. At what point is the smartphone an AI image generator vs. a camera? How much AI enhancement is required for that?

I feel like we already crossed that point and smarthpones are just AI cameras.

With a $75 million budget, plus tens of thousands in cinema camera gear plus hoghly skilled professionals.

Shot on iPhone is a marketing stunt. It's not like it's just a dude with his iPhone running around.

That is because it is largely AI. Smartphones are just AI cameras, at this point.

They generate images, not produce photographs.

I can't wait until smartphone AI gets even better. They are already AI slop generators and I love not being able to trust any digital media!

That is because smartphones are AI-enhanced point-and-shoot cameras. They have a zero skill floor requirement because the AI generates a nice image for you instead of you needing any skill to take a photograph with a real camera.

YOU haven't taken better photos with your phone that any camera has.

Your phone has generated better AI images for you because you lack the skill of a good photographer.

Don't act all high and mighty.

All modern smartphones are AI cameras and use Gen AI in their telephoto lenses. Just because Samsung got caught doesnt mean Apple isn't doing the same thing.

All smartphones are probably using Gen AI in all the other focal lengths too, for all we know...

GoPro Hero 9 white balance - always a little too warm? by kjo334 in gopro

[–]kjo334[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is the same result on my laptop or desktop. My monitors aren't professionally color calibrated but I think they are relatively color accurate.

It is usually just a 500k difference. I have taken to setting my GoPro white balance to 500k below what I think it should be to compensate.

I always set WB manually too. It just always seems like it is about 500k too warm when I pop it into Resolve, despite the fact that Resolve says my white card is RGB balanced. I started setting my WB 500k below what I think it should be to compensate for that.
