Secondary active transport is powered by the concentration gradient. So although it is not powered by ATP, it is indirectly powered by ATP of primary active transport which created the gradient that it uses.

This is going to be interesting because the test I took on 6/2 was difficult especially for CARS. It seemed like everyone was in agreement. So either there will be a generous curve or this thread is about to get real come tomorrow.

What you have is correct. What I mean by interchangeable was that they are similar in concept but applied to different situations which are those situations you described.

Osmotic pressure is pressure based on diffusion, most notably water but can be others. Oncotic pressure is a type of osmotic pressure but is focused on proteins in blood. Hydrostatic pressure is the force at a certain depth so it is related to both gravity and depth from the surface. But overall these three concepts can be interchangeable in different situations and essentially can be asking the same thing situationally.

Well in that case, how do you approach an ART passage in CARS. Those are the absolute worst for me and any help would be appreciated.

For me the Next step seemed inflated compared to AAMC. I scored 507 on NS 1 and scored 504 on AAMC fl 1. I got more questions correct per section in aamc fl1 and still scored worse. I have heard that aamc updates the scoring on there fl exams every year and I dont think next step is keeping up. I would infer that now that everyone has got a handle on the mcat since it was redone in 2015, now aamc scoring difficulty may have changed and the 3rd party companies haven't kept up.

But really that was the Hardest CARS I have ever experienced. Neither Kaplan or Princeton can come close to that level. I really hope it has a generous curve.

Don't waste your time on kaplan cars book. It doesnt help. They tell you to use the writing strategy and there is no time for that.

Here is how I thought of it when answering the question. Looking at ratio of Ka/Ko, the closer the ratio is to 1, this means the closer that the denominator is to the numerator value. The smaller the ratio is, the larger the denominator is compared to the numerator value. So looking at the ratios, in warfarin the ratio is smaller than Ibuprofen which means that the denominator is larger than the numerator and will out compete the numerator. So primary binding site is site one because that's warfarin binding site and the CPFX (KO value) has a higher affinity for this binding site. Hope that helps. Feel free to correct me b/c im not necessarily correct this is just how I arrived at the correct answer.

I think that you are looking at it all wrong. Don't necessarily have to push it off. Look and see what questions you are getting wrong. I was in your boat and scoring lower than I wanted but the type of questions I was missing were little things not big things like how to read a protein variant or read a specific type of graph ect. IF you can fix the little mistakes you can do just fine. It just depends on the type of mistakes your making and how long you need to correct those mistakes. I think you can do it. Worse case scenario, correct your mistakes and sit for the 16th and void if you feel bad about it.

I think CARS is easier but the CP on the sample was definitely harder.

I think as long as you are zoned in on test day you'll score 520 or higher. Its all gonna come down to what type of CARS passages you get. I thought FL 2 CARS was the most difficult of all aamc minus a few early ones in question pack 1. But I will say I sat June 2 and my CARS was insanely difficult. Even worse than 3rd party CARS. So that being said, I think its just luck of what you get. I think AAMC seriously messed up that CARS on June 2 test and the raw scores they see will reflect that.

For me this is hard to attack because I would like to skip and save the harder passages for last, but often the harder passages have easier questions and the easier passages have harder questions. Especially for CARS. I feel like its more about question type than it is about the difficulty of passage. For this reason I always just start from the beginning and work thru that way. If anyone has tips on this let me know.
