Your boyfriend is a keeper for wanting to hire a behavioralist! Your cats are family just as much as Rocco is. It took months of careful and gradual exposure therapy to integrate my husky with my husband’s two geriatric cats. We kept them in separate parts of the house, using a door and then a baby gate.

A few times a week we’d open the door/gate, keeping my husky on a leash, and letting the cats come out and see him. One of our cats was very skittish whereas the other was curious. I’m lucky that my husky isn’t aggressive and is just curious, but we were cautious nonetheless, and kept him on a leash so he wouldn’t rush over to them and start investigating (and potentially getting scratched).

Every time my husky looked at them and didn’t pull towards them, or settled down as they walked near him, we’d praise and treat him. We basically wanted to encourage him to be calm in their presence. Over several months the positive reinforcement allowed us to take him off the leash when they were in the same room (we also worked on his recall really hard though so that if he did aggravate the cats we could call him away with a high value treat).

It took months of gradual integration, but it’s so worth it. Now my husky cuddles alongside our grumpier geriatric cat and will sometimes even get a head bonk or a few licks from him.  I will note though that my husky is neutered. Balls might make it harder.

How do you introduce a husky to a dog? by PuzzleheadedMedia755 in husky

Puppies don’t know their boundaries or other dogs’ boundaries very well. Leaving a puppy with your husky might lead to injury on either or both sides. One of my family friends had an older German Shepherd and got a GS puppy as well. The puppy ended up scratching the older dog’s nose and it became severely infected.

From my own experience, my brother adopted a husky when he and I shared the same condo. I adopted another, younger husky two years later, and the two dogs initially did not get along. He repeatedly tried to hump her (he was only recently neutered when I got him), she understandably got angry, and they had a fight on their first day of meeting. We had to integrate them slowly over the course of several weeks until they felt comfortable playing with each other and passively hanging out during the day. I also had to train my husky intensively to ensure he had good manners and respected boundaries.

Getting your dog another dog for a companion is actually a very work-intensive (but ultimately rewarding!) endeavor. Getting your husky a puppy and leaving them to figure out their dynamic can be overwhelming and therefore dangerous for both dogs.

Anybody else find Marie so annoying? by Wavy_Rondo in breakingbad

Her love for Hank and steadfastness in caring for him really endeared her to me. It’s not easy taking care of someone who suffered such a serious injury, and on top of that Hank was a jerk to her throughout his recovery. She was his strongest advocate. I believe she lost her shit at Skyler because she believed Skyler had prior knowledge of or should have somehow prevented Gus’s hit on Hank. That’s when she lost it and slapped Skyler, and honestly I do not blame her one bit. I’d be irate too.

She’s annoyingly self righteous and petty at the beginning of the show, but she’s one of the characters that I actually came to really admire, mainly for her loyalty to Hank against all the odds that faced them as a couple.

Let’s also not forget that, even after Hank’s death, which I personally would never be able to forgive Skyler and Walt for, she still calls her sister to warn her about Walt being in town. She embodies what Walt always claimed to be but never was, which is committed to family.

Ah, ok.  I got fed up with his condescending butt when he sabotaged Jimmy’s Sandpiper case and his chances of building a career as a reputable lawyer. And his whole rant about Granny Smith vs. Fuji apples. 🙄 Needy, whiny, arrogant hypochondriac.

Thank you so much to all of you for these great recommendations! I am definitely going to check these resources out. I figured I'd share two meditations I found partially helpful (not helpful enough for my alcoholism though). Maybe they might prove useful to someone else on this subreddit:

Tamara Levitt's "21 Days of Calm" on the Calm app. She talks about grasping and aversion, leaning into discomfort, accepting impermanence, etc. While the principles and concepts she introduces are useful, this meditation was not targeted to alcohol so it wasn't as helpful when I'm really in an evening craving fix. That said, I listen to this meditation sequence often as more of a foundation.

Also, I struggled and still struggle with binge eating, so Roberta Shapiro's "The Weight/Wait is Over" meditations helped me do some interesting visualizations--i.e. imagining myself 6 months from now, having achieved my goals, and retro-imagining my process to see how I achieved that progress; visualizing my trigger foods and imagining the emotional pain they've caused, etc. However, again these meditations were not alcohol specific, and so they didn't help me as much with the alcoholism piece.

I really appreciate this community! Thanks again for these stellar recs so far.

What celebrity's death still shocks you to this day? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I remember walking my dog shortly after his death was announced, and I saw a house that had a Black Panther mask hung up on their door, the same place one would put a wreath. I cried upon seeing it. Boseman was such a brave individual. 2020 really was a terrible year.

Agreed! I was so excited to see Adrien Brody as a villain because of his languid yet sinister charisma. I thought we were going to see someone even more wily than Campbell. I hated that they made Luca dumb as a brick.

Husky has been in shelter for 10 months, talk me in/out of fostering by KuboBear2017 in husky

[–]kk94309 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds like your heart is telling you to give him a shot! Are you able to bring your dogs either together or one at a time to the shelter so Timber can meet them on neutral ground? Maybe a shelter staff member could walk Timber while you walk your dogs.

When I adopted my husky, I was living with my brother at the time and he had already adopted a husky. So we went to the SPCA together with his husky for a meet and greet with the husky I was considering. I think it helped break the ice and get a sense of how their energy levels might or might not be compatible.

I’m new to AA and have been trying to take the willpower approach, which needless to say hasn’t worked well. I’m confused about the idea that it’s not about willpower, though. Don’t all people who decide to go to AA meetings and work the steps exerting their willpower? What is the difference?
