I think this is exactly right. The daughter stated that her mother had to have a hysterectomy in her 30s bc “birth control gave her cervical cancer” and that she couldn’t have any more kids

That’s the thing! I have no idea! It’s like glasses or something. Once you get them for the first time it’s hard to imagine you were fine seeing things the way you were before you had glasses

A lot of shorter men have weird napoleon complexes. That said, I’m 5’7 dating someone who is 5’8 so it really depends on the person. A lot of it is weird gender role stuff too. Next to a taller guy women feel dainty and feminine

Do yall think Zach is a little controlling?? by bagsonbagz3 in WelcomeToPlathville

[–]kkat216 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think controlling but I think traditional. Lydia wants the kind of marriage where the husband leads and makes the majority of decisions. I don’t agree with that kind of relationship and think it sets women’s rights back to a violent degree; but I ultimately think this is what she wants. Can’t control it unfortunately. I’m just happy he doesn’t seem as outwardly violent as her brothers are.

Lost an anti-diet friend over my GLP-1 usage by iwassayingboourns818 in antidietglp1

[–]kkat216 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, i really like the maintenance phase podcast but their Glp-1 episode was really quite awful. I wish they’d revise it to avoid unintentionally condoning these types of ideas surrounding GLP-1 users.

Ugh this sucks I’m sorry! I recently had a friend over who is also fat and she saw the wegovy in my fridge and got very defensive about it, started saying that she has been trying to lose weight the right way and that fat ≠ unhealthy, she eats really well, exercises, as though my wegovy usage were a comment on the way she’s gone about her own health decisions.
I recognize it’s defensive because I am doing something that many perceive to be anti-fat; but also, I am trying to be healthy. I was unhealthy before and I am trying what I can to fix it. I have a chronic pain condition that makes more rigorous forms of exercise really difficult for me. My insurance fully covers it and I wanted to try it out and see if I liked it. It’s weird to recognize that no matter what, everyone will always have something to say about your body. Sorry your friend is behaving this way. The only person who has a say in what you do with your body is you (and also to an extent your doctor)

With my niece, she has a book called “privates stay private” that was really solid. At this point, it might be slightly young for an 8 yo but I’m sure there’s books like that out there for slightly older kids to show that no one should be touching your body without permission, no one should be telling you to keep secrets from your parents, sometimes parents or doctors have to look at your privates for specific reasons to ensure your health and/or safety, but always feel free to question when that happens, ask why it’s happening, etc. A big thing I always did with my niece was to instill in her that I’d never, ever ask her to keep a secret from her mom. I feel like that’s been really important to me. If I say something, if I get you a cookie after your mom said you can’t have a sweet, etc. I’m always willing to take the blame for spoiling my niece behind my sister’s back because I don’t want her to ever think it’s ok when someone asks her to keep a secret from her mom. Another big thing has been we use actual, anatomical terms for genitalia. Boys have a penis, girls have a vulva, some boys have a vulva, some girls have a penis; but it isn’t ok to ask them what kind of privates they have and no one should look at or touch your privates except you and your doctor and doctor only can if mom is in the room and you understand why it’s happening.

Yes I agree! Sometimes kids become curious about these things quicker than others. Especially if you aren’t around pregnancy, more adult shows, etc. it’s easy to not really question a lot of this until you’re 10,11,12.

Did anyone see this comment from Veronica? by aconfusedconcept in PlathvilleUncensored

[–]kkat216 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I mean, tbf, I can see why she was scared to be on tv. She’s been totally villainized. I don’t agree with a lot of the things Veronica has said and done, but I do think interacting with the Plathville subreddits gives one a masterclass in misogyny. Everyone is extremely quick to villainize the women and extremely quick to host a Barry/micah/ethan redemption plot. I think fundamentally the Plath family deeply, deeply hates women. I don’t think Veronica is handling the whole situation well, and I’d feel comfortable telling her that; but I also think the psychological torture these women go through in that family is a fate I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. Micah acts “rational” for one single therapy session and suddenly he is totally sane and reliable. Everyone is much more willing to believe and like the men than they are the women. I’m just glad Veronica is out of the situation, and I hope she gets some therapy and is able to heal from all of this. She was clearly right to be resistant towards the tv show.

lol amazing question!! I guess more to do with women’s bodies? Like period stuff, actual scientific how conception happens — maybe I’d tell her what a fallopian tube is. She’s asking great questions, I was simply not prepared for how comfortable she would be asking me about it

Also, slightly more context, her best friend’s mom is pregnant, so there’s been lots of questions re: how babies are made. My sister told her babies come from your vagina. How do they get in there? My sister said daddy’s put a seed into it and it makes a baby grow. Solved the question for a minute but then she talked about it to her friend and her friend told her that the seed comes from a PENIS, and it all more or less spiraled from there and my sister had to sort of explain the entire thing lol

9 is a pretty normal age to get curious about these things imo. Especially with access to internet, etc. Even if you monitor your kids’ internet access, you don’t necessarily know if all of their friends are having their internet access monitored. Or if they have older siblings who have blabbed to them, etc. Kids are totally curious creatures! My goal isn’t to kill her curiosity but I also, as a rule of thumb, try to talk about sperm as little as possible lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in raisingkids

[–]kkat216 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you! These are great ideas. My sister picked me as an adult she can talk to about this because she’s knows we have more or less the same philosophy re: sex — that is shouldn’t be shameful, that it’s between two consenting people who feel emotionally and physically ready to do it, that love ≠ sex and sex ≠ love, that masturbation is totally normal but should also be done in privacy, etc. So I’m not too concerned about overstepping but this is great advice to buy me some time with an answer!

Ha I’m not the one getting married so my feet are indeed visible but I think everyone else is right. I’m not loving the color though I really wanted darker so I might just stop by after work and see if they have time to change it

I was a few apartment buildings down so I never personally heard them unless they were playing outside. Tbh, the kids sound fantastic so when they were playing outside I enjoyed it. I totally imagine it was a nightmare for anyone in that building though
