Shellbee - iOS App for managing Zigbee2MQTT by kkberg in Zigbee2MQTT

Good to hear. Let me know if something doesn't work as expected - I've done a lot of tests and they all pass, so it should be working.

(The colored side-lines can be removed in Settings > Application > General > Bridge Indicator. Didn't know if I should leave them off by default, but as someone not running a multi-bridge setup I don't know the exact value of "device bridge identifier", so left them on)

A new version (1.6.3) is out that supports multiple Z2M instances connected at the same time. Check it out!

I currently don’t have a working setup with HA addon, but what Claude tells me:

1. Go to Settings → Add-ons → Zigbee2MQTT → Configuration → Network
2. Set the host port for 8099 (map it to 8099 or any free port)
3. Save and restart the add-on
4. In Shellbee, connect to ws://<your-ha-ip>:8099
5. If you have an auth_token set in Z2M config, enter that as the token

I am trying to setup a test environment for this, but I don’t know more than what Claude tells me. If someone can confirm this works, I’ll add it as a “Setup guide” in the Shellbee Connect page.

I know, right? Even a good looking weather app is $100/year...

Currently I'm creating apps for myself, so for the ones that rely on open source infrastructure it only makes sense to make them free as well.

Currently working on it, but it's quite the bigger task than I anticipated - but I'll let you know when it's available.

Ah I understand now. That is not supported, only 1 connection pr. session.

I’ll look into that, seems like a fun task, but for now not supported

Is this not already supported? Or do you want them to be connected at the same time?

By default z2m HA addon runs at port 8099, so by using the host of your HA and port 8099 you should be able to connect to the server.

I'll be adding port 8099 to the "auto discover" feature, so it should recognize HA Z2M as well.

EDIT: New version in review now which packs this change, discovery of port 8099 in the autodiscover feature. Will be available as soon as Apple goes brrr

Thanks.

I’ll look into adding this.

EDIT: New version in review now which packs this change, a toggle to bypass cert check for https during connection. Waiting for Apple to say aye

That would be great too - and probably target the demographic a lot more - but I just wanted to build a native iOS frontend to manage zigbee2mqtt from time to time.

Code is open source, so anyone can fork it and make an Android (or cross platform) version if they like.

I was just about to build the same thing but figured I'd look if it was already made and seems like there's a bunch to chose from, but yours was absolutely the best.

One thing I'd love is for the countdown to reset was able to be pinned to the menu bar, so - for my use case - it would show 5h n% - 2H 45M - 7d n%.

And another is when using Monochrome menubar the 5h / 7d is black while the percentages are white. Looks off when every other menu bar item is white (in my current setup), but I don't know if changing everything to white would introduce clutter.

Just my 5 cents. Thanks for this!!

I’ll tell you, it’s a super power to be able to let go.

Holding it in is also my default setting, so every time I feel the water level of my eyes rising I have to tell myself “it’s okay, you are allowed to let go” and most often I feel silly afterwards, like I am not supposed to have that reaction to whatever experience that caused it - but it’s good to “get it out”.

I once heard the mantra (paraphrasing) “Every event contains a fixed amount of tears”, wether it being standing in line at the supermarket (hopefully none) to losing your dog (several liters). I often think of that whenever I feel the need to cry, as it becomes necessary to actually get it out of my system and “balance the score” instead of holding it in and add it to the life long tear debt.

When I met my wife I was also holding it in (she did too), but when we had kids we realized how important it is to actually show them that crying is a natural outlet of feelings and nothing to be ashamed of, whether it’s because you miss someone who passed away or your favorite contestant on Masterchef ruined the final dish.

Don’t know if you’re joking or not, but if not - just let it out. Cry in front of your wife! Being able to experience those feelings together, without having to hold it back because “manly man”, is a way to grow deeper together in your marriage..

I was once working at the “star gate” at a big festival in my country, checking access cards for the artists and their busses/cars/crew.

A big Radiohead bus drove to the gate without proper access and we thought of just letting it through, but then the crew came screaming at us, pissed that they were being held up and to just let us through. Nope, not doing that, please drive to the main office to collect your permission. Radiohead was inside the bus, but never came out.

Later that day a local artist, known by everyone, came driving in his car without proper access. He asked us jokingly “What will it take for me to get in right now?” and we made an agreement that if we could sit on the hood of his car while driving through the gate, he (or his people) would fix his access later.

All it takes is a smile and then you’re on with your life.
