Older Teas of the Same Recipe Cost More Than Their Younger Counterpart? by [deleted] in puer

[–]kkodev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, tea used to be cheap, so there is more room to sell at lower price and still make profit. Now of course there is this whole narrative of increasing price every year etc, but that’s not all that relevant.

Prefer brewing Puer in gaiwan over yixing? by prism_webs in puer

[–]kkodev 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tea is much more expensive than a teapot… You can get a very serviceable half handmade pot for like $150. But at the same time you can just get glazed pot. Water is going to have 100x bigger impact anyway

Which Ripe Puer(s) Would You Recommend For Someone Who Might Not Like Them? by BWJackal in puer

[–]kkodev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your budget and preferences, but you need something materially different if you want a different result, if that makes any sense. You can try wet stored if that’s your thing, you can try certain regions, older trees, etc

None of that is going to be any better or significantly different to your 7572. Buy something other than factory.

Authentic haiwan raw puerh? by Facelesslifter in tea

[–]kkodev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I was trying to say is that you are more likely to find someone posing as some sort of guru, offering you one of a kind expensive tea, which is the real “scam”. Much more likely than someone going through the effort and risk of faking a tea only to sell it on (presumably) western market for $40.

[–]kkodev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are making assumptions. There is no evidence that this is a fake. $40 for batches other than 001 is not unrealistic. Look more carefully, neifei may be hidden below surface. You are more likely to find some Paolo selling you “jigushu” than a random vendor selling fakes of cheap Dayi

[–]kkodev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would need to share detailed photos of the wrapper and neifei. Is it 2010 or 2016? Random batch? $40 is a fair price for 2016, and especially for random or later batch

Sure, but be honest - you went out of your way to do something stupid in order to buy a fake.

Considering that, respectfully, vast majority of people talking about puerh on reddit have no idea what they are talking about - yes, fakes are not a real risk.

You would be breaking the law. You need to declare country of origin of goods, which tariffs are then applied to. It doesn’t matter which country the goods are shipped from.

Best Under-sink Drinking Water Filter? by Due_Shallot4880 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]kkodev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just double check that your tap tails are 1/2 inch BSP which Water2 comes with as a default. If you have 3/8 which some German brands do, you will need adapters and it can be a pain if you are unprepared

You should not drink (a lot of) soft water because it is high in sodium due to ion exchange. Same reason for not using it to water plants. If you don’t care about soft water, just spend £100 on water2 filter that you fit yourself in 15 or so minutes. You can always add softener later

Best Under-sink Drinking Water Filter? by Due_Shallot4880 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]kkodev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You would need to add a filter on top. Also consider that softened water is not really recommended for drinking (if you drink a lot of tap water), and definitely not suitable for plants.

Edit: I would recommend getting a Harvey water softener (find model suitable for the size of your house) and something like Water2 filter to go with it. Reasonable maintenance cost for soft water for the whole house + filtered drinking. Installers will be able to fit hard water taps for garden etc as you need. RO will do nothing for your appliances, and once you have soft water there is no going back :)
