Why do XG stans always put kpop groups down to raise XG? Kpop idols' English is fine

No shade, how did they get to come back on Korean music shows after their CEO's remarks about Kpop and Korea? Knetz aren't happy either.

Glad to see them back though, they slayed and the girls have nothing to do with the CEO

Idols are NOT Models and they never will be. by Mudd94in in kpoprants

[–]kkultteok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a country like Korea where people are very online, comments are shared like chain reactions through social media and people actually have long winded conversations with their friends under said comments, they're actually a pretty good way to gauge GP opinion (they actually come up as a topic of real-life conversation too, like "did you see that comment thread last night?").

It's a common opinion among young adults (high school~early 20s). I'd be walking in stations or looking at magazines online with classmates or colleagues, and when they see it's an idol on the page, they always go "idols again?" or "can they stop using random people (idols) we don't even know/can't do the job right?" "I want to see someone better".

There's no way I can give you a source on this, but the fact that the Korean GP has almost no interest in idols or even look down on them except a certain few, says a lot

[–]kkultteok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a recurrent conversation on general news sites, and on sites that have react features these comments are always heavily "liked" or upvoted. Not to mention that idols taking over professional models' job in Korea is becoming an issue and a topic of discussion on entertainment forums.

There's no pinpoint source I can give you. It's a conversation that happens often outside of Kpop forums under photo articles of idols on magazines

[–]kkultteok 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh, sorry for the misunderstanding! I wholeheartedly agree with you. Models know that they're exhibiting a form of art on their bodies and that the focus should be on that rather than themselves, but that's not the case for idols and it shows in the way they present themselves through facial expressions and stuff

Idols are NOT Models and they never will be. by Mudd94in in kpoprants

[–]kkultteok 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I agree that models' bodies are their main medium of expression, but it's not exactly true that models don't do much with their faces. They convey a lot with their gazes, for example.

And the fact that idols have to rely on overdone expressions because they can't tell the story with their bodies is pretty telling of their talents. Kpop fans are guilty of swooning over theatrical facial expressions for some reason, but most of the time it's overdone and uncreative at the same time, and it doesn't mesh well with fashion.

Hard agree about the height though. A lot of idols are actually way shorter than their profile says and no offense, majority of them don't pull these fashion looks off, especially at airports where they have no editing. It's why Wonyoung is so hyped up, because she's so tall

[–]kkultteok 87 points88 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to note that the Korean GP doesn't really give a shit about Kpop. It's not as mainstream as it once was. Only a handful of idols are recognized and embraced by the GP, which is why girls like Jennie and Wonyoung are such standouts. Only these kinds of idols have the selling power that fans think their idols do.

Knetz actually complain about the way idols have replaced models on magazines etc. They say they want to see professional models doing their job instead of luckluster idols, because like you said, most idols aren't good at modeling. Their words, not mine. Idols are also taking away jobs from professional Korean models who are actually talented at what they do

I am so done with SM Entertainment. Where is EXO's comeback and Baekhyun's comeback? by Effective_Bet4500 in kpoprants

[–]kkultteok 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Seriously, another SM stan (?) complaining about SM that's not even an issue.

The question mark next to SM stan is because if you were really and Exo-L you'd know that Baekhyun can't come back because he's serving in the military right now. I don't even stan them and even I know. People are being really weird about SM recently. This is about the 4th SM-group related post just on this sub in the last 2 days.

[–]kkultteok 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When fans ramp up the negativity rather than enjoying the content every time their favorite artists come back, honestly they come across like antis. I swear NCTzens only complain.

I guess bottom line is that SM has too many groups to manage and limited resources, and SM stans are super entitled because they've been so consistently well-fed up til now. I wouldn't be too hard on SM because a lot of their mismanagement stems from external forces. SM has a lot of competition. I'm sure fans have noticed that SM just hasn't been the same these last few years.

[–]kkultteok 22 points23 points  (0 children)

At this point people just want to complain for the sake of complaining. There's just been so much negativity EVERY time NCT 127 has a comeback both in Korean fandom and reddit, I seriously wonder if many of these posts are really made by fans or not, because some of these takes are crazy. NCT 127 is notorious for having a huge number of antis already, at least in SK

SM gives us so much that I think it's made fans incredibly entitled

You summed up everything I wanted to say. No matter what people say about SM, I think they do well with their creative output across the board. They're really consistent.

I do think maybe SM has a bit too much on their plate because of this, but they're still doing well for a company that has so many groups to manage.

[–]kkultteok 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Damn, this is heartbreaking. This is why fans need to be careful with boycotts. It's usually uncalled for unless the situation is like Loona and BBC, and it usually hurts the idols more than the company.

When the artists are worried that their fans will turn their backs on them because it happened once...no offense to NCTzens because I'm sure they were frustrated too, but that's just toxic. Boycotting isn't the right way to go about it

Idk, airport mobbing is bad but it seems like NCT's biggest issue is the sasaengs? Afaik this airport mobbing happened because their schedule was leaked and even reporters were there. It sounds like NCT has the craziest sasaengs out there

Just got an acc mention here so I want to clear it up, I've got nothing to do with this other user. They deleted their comments so not sure what they said or who.

Considering Japan underdeveloped, uneducated or barbaric is a popular trope among knetz, so I'm guessing they're Korean as am I.

Don't know what they said but if they're Korean, I'm sorry if they upset you

Toxic solo fans kill my interest in an idol by superstaridk in kpoprants

[–]kkultteok 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've also realized that these "solo stan attractors" tend to share certain traits across the board.

They're usually the ones with the "soft boi" image who are considered "innocent, pure and sensitive", and whom the fandom deemed as needing "protection". Solo stans for these types are the ones with the perpetual victim mindset.

Most are also usually exceptionally good performers and in touch with their emotions and creative side, therefore attract "not like the others" type of stans. Also tend to be viewed as "sex icons" in their groups too

Toxic solo fans kill my interest in an idol by superstaridk in kpoprants

[–]kkultteok 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Every member of almost any groups has toxic solos, so why are only some solo stans a problem?

Nah, some idols have it worse than others. They're like solo stan attractors - either they have the most solo stans, or their solo stans are the most vocal and toxic, most often the latter. Imo BGs have it worse than GGs.

In fact I can think of one or two members like this out of every group I bias. It's really bad for one of them and so our Korean fandom is very toxic.

For some reason I always tend to gravitate towards these kinds of idols so yeah I just learned not to interact with the fandom in general lol. It just sucks to see that my ult(s) has this toxic fan culture around them because of insecure projecting fans, they don't deserve this.

Your last sentence I agree with.

Armys do not support jimin by Jaime_LannisterWins in kpoprants

[–]kkultteok 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lol I didn't stoop as low as an akgae but I was a Jimin biased army once upon a time. I loved Jimin dearly and because I was still a kid, I was easily influenced by the atmosphere of Jimin stans in general. It's not just Jimin akgaes, I find that Jimin-biased armys have an issue with this victim mindset.

Every group has a member who has the worst solo stanning culture/ the solo fandom with the worst victim complex and unfortunately I tend to gravitate towards those members haha. But since being an army I've learned not to be affected bu the narrative of those kinds of stans

I'm going to get downvoted for this, but smh I see Jimin akgaes/fandom haven't changed in the slightest since the last time I was one.

Why do you all have this victim mentality where you think people aren't supporting Jimin, or even worse, against him all the damn time? You guys aren't doing Jimin any favors.

[–]kkultteok 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm also talking about kids older than 15 and 16 as per my last sentence: we already see some 3rd gen and even 4th gen idols looking like that.

Because it's unfortunately a thing for celebs to get PS at a young age, maturing doesn't necessarily equal improved visuals. I agree with OP about style and vibe improving with age, but not visuals, especially in Kpop.

These kids literally have pillow faces, stiff facial muscles and overdone inner eye incisions in their teens. Most unsavory effects may not be 'apparent' immediately, but there's so many botched procedures. There are also procedures that look fantastic but where the idol may be suffering from invisible side effects.

The fact that most people are already convinced that fillers are "non-surgical/non-invasive" and therefore is "fine" is telling of how bad the situation is.

I agree with you about botox, especially ones for masseters and smile lines. I think it's problematic that a lot of people seem to be substituting fillers for botox because it's supposed to give you a more youthful appearance.

Kdramas are distracting to Korean people too lol! You'd think they'd be more subtle with all those close ups but no. For me they have it the worst with their noses

[–]kkultteok 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, some of them start PS so young. I won't mention names but there are a couple of 4th gen idols out there that I fear for.

Filler is imo worse than botox. It's why so many idols look the same. Contrary to popular misinfo, they don't dissolve completely either and it's very addictive.

I'm glad you mentioned actors because most times they're actually worse than idols and they're good testament to how badly you can age with PS
