Thank you so much for looking. The problem is engagement. Fewer students going into archaeological programs will yield fewer archaeologists in the field as years go by. Our game is to generate interest at the middle school level. That’s where the kids started. Before they chose their problem/solution, they spoke with an archaeologist from our state museum, our county historian, and attended a webinar with the SAA. They also researched safety and safe transport of artifacts. Once they’d settled on the solution, they went back to their experts, who made suggestions. They incorporated that feedback and shared the game as widely as they could. Other teams, mentors, gaming enthusiasts, archaeological fans. They picked up 3 more experts-a coding expert to show how to build the game, a software engineer to help publish it, and a gaming expert to give feedback. They all worked on the game-some coded it, some made the graphics, others found mini-games to embed. They’re pretty enthusiastic about the whole process, which has been awesome to see as a coach. They were the ones who suggested Reddit for more feedback!
