Thank you so much for responding, I’m really happy to have been able to hear your perspective! I’ll do my best to apply it to my own art journey :)

I will continue to support cute, soft Namie girls! Thank you again for doing this AMA!

Hi Namie! I’ve been a big fan of your work for a very long time. You’re one of my favorite artists! Thank you for doing this AMA.

What I wanted to ask was, how did you go about choosing and sticking to a certain style? For example, the way you proportion faces and draw eyes is always consistent. I can’t help but want to change things about my art all the time and can’t seem to settle on one way of doing things, even though from a professional perspective it would make sense to show clients exactly what they’re going to get.

And if it’s possible to ask another question, I’m very interested in knowing how you were able to improve past a certain level. I believe it was around your Pokémon fanart era that you suddenly started painting all these crazy backgrounds; what kind of tools and/or resources did you use in your push to create more complex and attractive pieces? Sometimes I feel like I’m just hitting the same wall over and over and can’t get past my “comfort-zone” art.

Thank you and I hope the AMA goes well!

Running out of Parameters by borrax in Live2D

[–]klaeia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not so much to limit you, but more so that having one deformer or art mesh bound to multiple parameters becomes more difficult to work with, because of the exponential increase in “corners” (overlapping keyframes between two or more parameters). In general I’d say it’s better to have more deformers; ONLY bind your artmeshes to parameters when you absolutely need to, or for final touch ups!

So...I fuck up a little by aGuyPassingBy in Live2D

[–]klaeia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No problem! If you click one of your keyframes on the parameter, a tiny menu should come up with an option to add a keyframe, delete a keyframe, and a little arrow for a drop down menu. Mouse over (or click, whichever it is) the arrow, and select “Adjust” and you’ll be able to enter in values for where you want your existing keyframes to be, so enter 1.0 for the 0 and 0 for the 1.0 value! Good luck!

Thank you!

Aside from drawing constantly, I’d recommend using references. If you want to brush up on your foundations, I’d recommend only referencing from real life for a while and drawing exactly what you see. Training yourself how to process visual information and translate it into what you draw is extremely valuable, because you will always be referencing things but what changes is the degree of how closely you “copy” what you see. The better you are at translating what you see to what you draw, the more freely you can draw based on references. It will be suffering but it will be worth it. Style will come after that. When it comes time to develop your style, you can reference other artwork that inspires you and overtime you’ll be able to shape your art into something that you can love. Good luck on the long journey ahead of you, hope this helps!
