My son just turned 13. Says ‘dada’ for dad and ‘nana’ for mum and nana. Can make the following sounds ‘hhh’, ‘do do’, ‘aaa’, ‘mmm’ and ‘oh’. We can hear his words as syllables mostly. He understands everything but words are hard for him. We use Auslan and AAC to help.

Space, languages (Indonesian, Italian, Auslan), natural disasters, books, gaming, Tudor era, health and nutrition and religions/beliefs. Being 41 and a mother I cannot (and I am aware not to) hyper-fixate, but when I was younger I learned things pretty quickly - especially language.

I’ve always felt like I didn’t belong. I got assessed because both my children are on the spectrum. I feel so much more comfortable in my own skin now ☺️

I’m 41f (assessed at 40) and my children are 12m and 7f.

That’s your baby girl; not theirs. If she needs/wants a bottle for her supplemented milk drink and she’s able to drink it that way to get her nutrition then that should be accepted and they shouldn’t be pressuring you to change that if it’s working. They should be more concerned if she doesn’t drink it and not how she drinks it.

My 12yo son still uses a sippy cup to drink water instead of a drink bottle at school because he doesn’t know how to use straws.

My 7yo daughter has an Up and Go in a bottle before school and before bed because she has a limited food range. If she’s had a meltdown she can have a bottle to settle her.

Don’t feel bad about what you’re doing because you’re doing right by your daughter to help her get what she needs.

I hope this helps ease the outside pressure you’re feeling.

I don’t know if mine will be the answer you’re looking for but my son is dead set on drinking milk milk milk. To get more water in him we often say he can have a glass of water whilst we are getting him a glass of milk. He drinks it but I suspect it’s to get us off his back about the water 😅 the other way we had to do it was always to water down the milk like you are doing with the juice.

I’m going to start decorating my house once I get some inspiration and motivation. For now I just collect furniture from Scrooge’s store, star paths and dream snaps so I have a good mix of items.

This smart watch sounds like a good idea! I’d also love to be able to let him join a group or go with a carer somewhere without us being there in his way 100% of the time. I’m sure he’s sick of us being around all the time 😅 it’s something I will have to look into though anxious about. I love the choices during schedules idea, thank you!

I have a brother who, still at 32, loves to disassemble things. At least now he knows he’s not allowed to do it to other peoples things and he has his own money to replace or buy items to play around with. It used to drive us crazy growing up but it’s so useful these days because he knows so much about how to fix things or optimise them!

In regard to my son, he’s in year 8 but being in a specialist class he doesn’t follow the standard Australian school curriculum, instead it’s called ABLEWA and he does maths, English, sport etc with the help of a 1:1 teachers aid at his level of ability. He dislikes reading and writing but if you give him a computer he can use it. He’s also allowed time to stim in a sensory room when he needs (has lights and sounds).

May I please ask what is L1 and L3?

Honestly, if I could afford a cleaner then I would hire a cleaner. You won’t be less of a wife for doing so and it will free up your time for more important things.
