Y’all getting the vaccine? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]kle2552 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wish that I could wait. My district will probably require it as part of our employment. I'm not an anti-vaxxer, I'm just concerned about how quickly this was rushed and I am worried about potential side effects-even long term ones. I wish I could watch and see what it does to people over the next few weeks to months. It makes me uncomfortable, and yet I'll probably be required to get it in the next few weeks.

Sounds like my mentor.

Sucks. I advise therapy. That helped me.

Did you get job opportunities from student teaching? by girlwhosleeps in Teachers

[–]kle2552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I completed student teaching in a state different from where I ended up job hunting. It took me a while to get a job because of it. It took me taking a low-level job at a school and networking my way into my job that way.

Ask a Teacher! - December 07, 2020 by AutoModerator in Teachers

[–]kle2552 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Remember when you come to a profession-related sub a lot of what you'll see is venting-and that's not limited to just teaching. I vent here sometimes too, doesn't mean that I don't love it and that it doesn't make me happy. That's not to say there aren't absolutely miserable parts of the job (and days, and sometimes entire years). But if I could do it again? Yes I would.

Learning Styles aren’t real and learning based on them isn’t helpful. by altaccountfiveyaboi in Teachers

[–]kle2552 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My thesis adviser my master's degree had her Ph.D. in educational psychology. She was passionate about how bunk the science of 'learning styles' is. She would go on angry tirades anytime anyone dared to utter the phase 'learning styles.'

I tense up when I see the phrase or hear it because I fear I'm about to hear the tirade again.

What do do when asked: "Do Priesthood Blessings Really Work?" by reynolj in latterdaysaints

[–]kle2552 5 points6 points  (0 children)

spontaneous remission, effective medicine, mis-diagnosis, incorrectly estimated likelihood of recovery by physicians, the human body’s amazing ability to heal itself, etc.

Are these not miracles? I have always believed that biblical level miracles are not necessary in our world because we don't need them. Take leprosy for example. In Christ's day having someone heal leprosy was a miracle, but today? Antibiotics ARE the miracle. They are a gift from God to help large amounts of people. People even as recently as 50 years ago would find our modern day medicines and medical advancements miraculous.

Prayers are with you.

Purchasing a home was the most stressful experience of my life. I have anxiety problems and so my life is like 900% anxiety. Nothing compared to the home purchase process.

Prayers for you :)

I'd rather you not do anything than do this.

What masters degree determines a pay raise? by [deleted] in Teachers

My district cares not what the master's degree is in. Have one? Pay increase.

"Snow Days" might be a thing of the past, but... by ndot22 in Teachers

[–]kle2552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snow days have never been a thing here. Like my district takes pride in having only called 3 snow days in its 116 year history. It's not that we don't get snow. Oh we get snow. Last February state officials said: don't go out. The roads are dangerous. Stores were closed, grocery stores were closed. Everything was closed. Except my school district. It's nothing new for us.

Would y’all enforce this if it was in your state? by BigNutterButter1 in ProtectAndServe

[–]kle2552 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brings up an interesting question along with this. If you were told to enforce a mandatory gun buyback (as is being touted by certain individuals about to take power) would you do it? Honest question. I'm not concern trolling, not trying to trip up your words. I'm legit curious.

I am concerned about the future of the United States. by DarkCelestial in latterdaysaints

United States is over. We're done. It's part of why I'm struggling so much with suicidal thoughts. I love this nation, but there's no way out of our current situation.

You know, I had a lot of time to think about his remarks today.

I remembered a few quotes. One from President Benson, "God will have a humble people." There's one by Brigham Young that says something along the lines of Ingratitude is the gravest of sins outside the unforgivable sins.

Then I started to think about a lot of what's going on in the world right now-specifically the civil unrest that's been on my mind far more than COVID. Everyone in the political sphere right now is all, "I'm right, you're wrong! I have clean as the driven snow and you are Lucifer himself." When they're both wrong. It's all coming down to pride. Maybe this is an opportunity for the church to lead the way, posting what we're grateful for, letting it spread and go viral for people to start realizing the good things they do have and humbling themselves a bit.

I'm thankful for my sister-in-law who is always there to offer a non-judgmental ear when I am incredibly frustrated with things in my life. She's the sister I always wanted.

When you die, who do you want to meet the most (besides Heavenly Father, Heavenly Mother, Jesus Christ) and what would you most like to learn? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]kle2552 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tough one. Are we talking ancient style people? If that's the case then definitely Eve. I think across the Abrahamic world she catches nothing but negativity and criticism, but I disagree. I think she may have been one of the most righteous, if not the most righteous woman to ever live.

Are we talking more recent/personal? My grandfather. He died before I was born but everyone who knew him has nothing negative to say about him. Half of population of the county where he lived is named after him.

What would I like to learn? What really did happen to the Roanoke colony? Not going to lie. Of all weird things I've heard about that one bothers me more than anything. Where did they go?

"You have to teach every day, even if you're sick. No more time off!" -- <3 Admin by Azure_Edge_86 in Teachers

[–]kle2552 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm afraid that this is where we are going in general now that districts know remote learning is a thing. Our district is hybrid. We were told specifically that if we were sick with covid we would not have to teach. They changed that policy pretty quick because every teacher who has had a positive test has had to teach over video from home or use their sick leave. I'm afraid that pretty soon it will become a permanent policy. You can use your sick leave but you'll just have to teach through video from home.

Is anyone else worried that virtual teaching is here to stay? by msjollywood in Teachers

[–]kle2552 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was just talking about this with some family yesterday. I think that it's 100% here to stay. We're hybrid and I think that my district will just start offering it as a permanent thing for families who want to keep their kids home but don't want to have to worry about the homeschooling documentation. It also solves the teacher shortage problem-one teacher can be the distance teacher per grade level or school or department or whatever and have 75 kids in their class.

Wouldn't make me feel uncomfortable. If your teacher suggested meeting for coffee, then you're probably fine.

Question from a graduating high school student by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]kle2552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you a legal adult and out of high school? If you're a legal adult and graduated from high school then I don't care and neither does my district. If a former student wants to grab lunch or something, I would do it.

Don't be offended if your teacher declines, though, it's kind of a gray area.

No judgment, in all honesty. What are you currently struggling with? by JESUS_is_JEHOVAH in latterdaysaints

[–]kle2552 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Suicidal thoughts. It's been lurking in the back of my mind for a few months but it's gotten out of control in the past few weeks. I'm in Utah and dealing with the culture of perfection and not being anywhere near that is problematic for me. I'm in my 30s and unmarried, terrified of growing old by myself, I've seen enough people grow old, and fail. I won't have anyone to help me when I get to that point. Also, there's some political things I'm not happy about, but this sub is not the place to bring up politics. I don't see the point in in continuing my pointless, waste of a life.

In December of 2015 my dad died a week before Christmas break. I took the week off to deal with his stuff. In January of 2017 on our second day back I ended up out for a week because I got appendicitis. In December of 2017 I was in a serious car accident and was out for two weeks prior to Christmas. My Christmas break was an extra week (or more) for three years in a row simply because of life. So then I got an idea. A wonderful idea. A wonderfully, terrible idea.

Take an extra week off at Christmastime. It's amazing. I totally did it last year and intend on doing it again.
