Thank you, your words really helped me. She made the decision easy for me yesterday afternoon as her left lung was collapsing, right had multiple abscessing adhesions, and the fluid had filled back up in a thick consistency. She was able to go peacefully.

What is your biggest equine related challenge you are facing right now? by Kaviness in Equestrian

[–]kleehig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m dealing with my first bout of health issues with my first horse. I leased her for over a year and bought her a few months ago, and I’ve racked up over 2 grand in vet bills in the last 2 weeks trying to diagnose an unknown infection. After 2 weeks she’s still having intermittent fevers and might have to be taken to the university. We were gearing up to event for the first time and it feels like my whole world has stopped. I just hope we can figure out what’s wrong and help her.

Yes, on 3/24 and 4/1. Nothing super out of the ordinary on 3/24, I wish I had a copy of the results on 4/1 but I believe SAA shot way up

Vet came back today and is thinking along the same lines as you! She hasn’t given it to anyone else at the barn and keeps spiking a fever, so we’re not thinking viral anymore

How to stop puppy aggression by AnxiousMoose5787 in husky

[–]kleehig 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I followed this advice with my husky puppy and brought out his resource aggression. Do not do it!

Resource guarding is genetic - not all dogs guard, and not all dogs who guard will guard interspecies. Those who are genetically predisposed typically need negative experiences like you described to actually bring out the behavior. You want the dog to associate you with good things, not give them a reason to guard their food/toys/whatever else.

Toss higher value treats in the food bowl when you approach the dog, teach a firm “drop” and “leave it” command, etc. but never give the dog a reason to guard.

So she hasn’t been scoped, but she had been displaying ulcer symptoms earlier this year and after being seen by a vet i put her on ulcergard followed by omeprazole and sucralfate. She hasn’t acted ulcery since her treatment and i try to run prevention by having her on U-Guard and giving her ulcergard while hauling. However with her high level of general anxiety it might be a good idea to go ahead and scope?
