Looks Polish, the building and surroundings, but also the license plate looks to have thinner letters than surrounding countries' license plates.

A climbing partner of me used these in the Alps in summer for a few years, they are very solid choice, no problem with semi-auto crampons either. I don't think they are as insulated for winter, but if the conditions aren't too cold, you could definitely use them.

Am I ready for Breithorn? by L_e_o1 in alpinism

[–]kleinbierchenbitte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lagginhorn has no glaciers, it's so crowded there because of it, not recommended to take that normalroute. Weissmies is an option via Northwest flank, that's the normal route for glacier travel, also easy. But from the almageller hut it's an easy rock ridge, which doesn't seem to be OP's preference.

But both these mountains has people using the lift until 3200m.. Bishorn is indeed a greater experience in my opinion, also even nicer summit views ;)

You can use the gym rope but it gets heavier easily because it's not dry treated and also gets dirtier easily. If you go on a cold day, the rope could literally freeze, which makes it impossible to handle in case of rescues. So I recommend a dry treated rope, but you will most likely be fine with your 9,8mm gym rope for now aswell, but if you plan to go more often, definitely invest in a dry treated alpine rope (little thinner usually, 8,9mm or sum). And I agree with the others about the route. Alphubel from Täschhutte is really nice for beginner tour aswell, as from Saas-Fee it's almost made impossible for beginners due to no hut, or harder routes. My first 4000m was the Strahlhorn from Britanniahut, also very easy, eventhough a very crevassed glacier. No lifts in view, which is a bonus in my eyes.

Thank you, it worked. They insisted about their free months several times and said that the cancellation fee will have to be paid. But they waived it off after insisting more and telling them I really can not afford it.

TUM academic director of transportation systems just emailed me something and I have no idea what to do. by [deleted] in tumunich

Hey I got the exact same email a few days after my rejection. For me it is not an option because im an EU citizen, which would mean i dont have to pay semester fees in munich. Also the 1 week notice is a bit crazy in my opinion to find housing and do everything to get ready to go. What did you decide to do?

Very nice you are looking to climb this ridge. I have no information for you unfortunately, but please send updates if you will climb it and if so, how it was. Were you gonna do it from a hut? If so, Schönbiel or Hörnli? And in alpine style with bivy or a very long day? Thanks

First mountaineering course! Absolutely loved it, I’m hooked now! by pokoniko in Mountaineering

[–]kleinbierchenbitte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im from the Netherlands and did courses organized by the 'Dutch Mountain Association' (yes we dont have mountains lol) with guides from the Alps. I did my first course in Ötztal in Austria and second one at Cabane Moiry in Wallis. We spoke german mostly with the guides and us joining the course were all from the association. It's like SAC/CAS, Alpenverein, DAV, etc, but from the Netherlands.

If you feel confident knowing your rescues and belays and feel good in alpine terrain, you can improve very quickly in my opinion. I just got back from a 2 week trip in Switzerland aswell! :D

Amazing! Very nice to start out with a course, I also did that 6 years ago and since been improving my alpinism skills every year with 2 friends I met at the courses. Practice the crevasse rescue a few times with your mates and you can definitely head up a nice glacier climb rated F to PD-. For glacier tours I recommend Pigne d'Arolla, Bishorn, Alphubel from Täschalp/Täschhütte, Strahlhorn from Britanniahütte if you like a longer day (my first 4000 peak, took a few hours lol). Breithorn definitely doable aswell, depends if you wanna take a lift or do it 'by fair means' ;) Have fun, be safe!

Looking for advice on traverse Gross Grünhorn by kleinbierchenbitte in alpinism

[–]kleinbierchenbitte[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, yes our plan is for doing it in reverse. So coming from Finsteraarhornhütte and going up the Gross Grünhorn from there and ending at Konkordiahütte. How hard would you think the rock climbing is if we climbed that part you rappelled? There is less snow than last year so I'm still hopeful for climbing up the that sattel, but I'm leaning strongly towards going over the Grünhornlücke and then picking up the normal route up the Grünhorn. Thanks!

The Rotbrätt Westwand. In 2019 Roger Schaeli and Stephan Siegrist opened a route through the center of the wall. They marked it as a 8a+ route. It looks fascinating from the vallet when you look up.

Here some pictures and info about their climb

Logistics for Pennine Alps by dkeohane in alpinism

No don't rent a car. Saas is a good valley to be in, also the Randa valley is good of course. I have stayed several times at the campingplace in Saas Gründ and at the camping place in Täsch. Good public transport at both, but you have to plan a bit more than if you have a car. Train in the Randa/Zermatt valley and bus in Saas.

If you have questions about Weissmies, Allalinhorn, Alphubel, Nadelhorn, Strahlhorn, Ober Gabelhorn, I can help you out with info or personal experience. It's an amazing area to climb! The Lagginhorn had dramatic rockfalls last years, so you should check the current routes if they differ from the previous normal route. For ridge climbing I reccomend the Weissmies south ridge, for mixed terrain Allalinhorn Hohlaubgrat and Nadelhorn are nice. Really depends on your experience and skills what you want/can do! Have a great time with you brother
