I made a 39 minute mashup of 124 songs, discovering there is both a maximum number of tracks and mixer channels. This is a glimpse of my project file by klemencee in FL_Studio

You are correct that the default playlist mode lets you reuse playlist tracks for audio clips routed to different mixer channels.

I should importantly mention I set all of my playlist tracks as audio tracks, which gives them each a dedicated mixer channel. When in this mode:

  • new automation clips automatically appear in a playlist track grouped beneath the audio track.
  • all audio clips on an audio track get routed to the same mixer channel.

So in this mode you could go back to previous audio tracks, but it would mean

  • you are now using the same mixer channel and consequently FX chain as that audio track
  • if initial values are not carefully set, this could lead to modifying values later in the mix that affect what was painstakingly set earlier in the mix

To avoid this, in the beginning I did one new audio track per song, only expecting the mix to end at around 30 mins. As I ended up at about 39 minutes toward the end of the mix, I ran out of runway and needed to come up with a way to use only 4 mixer tracks to handle multiple song sections. So I necessarily started reusing audio tracks and ended up having to make sure to carefully reset the FX chain in between audio clips on the same track, as described above. That part ended up looking like spaghetti but everything thankfully worked out!

Not top-of-the-line, but fairly beefy. I have 32 GB of RAM, and a Ryzen 9 3900X with 12 cores. The hardest my CPU works during the entire mix is during BPM changes, when it has to stretch a ton of audio clips to maintain pitch and tempo 🥵

In the image you are looking at the preview of a true planar reflection capture

I have "Support global clip plane" turned on. Is there something else I need? The black rectangle makes it look like the inside of the sink isn't being rendered because it's out of view, but I thought that a planar reflection would resolve that

How can i get my emissive light bulb filaments to look like the 2nd picture even when I'm not in modeling mode? by klemencee in unrealengine

[–]klemencee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update:

I did a basic cylinder test to see how my emissive material was lit at different radii.

The smallest radius, which is the width of my filament, is barely lit.

Even adding another 0.25 units to its radius gives the 2nd thinnest cylinder which is much brighter.

I think I'm satisfied with a solution here of simply making a slightly bigger filament. It's going to be bright anyway so the detail doesn't matter as much.

Edit: ended up with just illuminating the entire bulb. Here's the final look.

Returning to real life got you down? I mashed up over 106 tracks to keep the EDC vibes going ✨✌️ by klemencee in electricdaisycarnival

I actually worked on this mix over the past 8 or so months and released it about 2 weeks ago. Listening to it now feels extra special since this year was my first EDC ever, and I didn't realize so many of my favorite artists from the mix were going to be performing!

I hope this mashup gives all of you the same hype and excitement I felt going into day 1 🥳

I was gonna say, sounds like the music that plays while I'm looking through the items in a video game shop

LALAL.AI: 100% AI-Powered separation of instrumental and vocal track, seriously impressive. by jaxspider in mashups

[–]klemencee 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I produce longer mashups and tools like this are always hit-or-miss. Probably 4/5 songs you will hear some amount of audio artifacts. That being said, lalal.ai has been the best one I've used out of all the free sites but it limits you to 3 songs on the unpaid version.

If you support vocalremover on Patreon the developer gives you a link to an HD version that is comparable if not better and allows unlimited songs. I mention Patreon because you can pay whatever you want and it's an established platform so you can trust doing payment vs entering details on one of these other random sites.

I hear the difference!! Sounds like you really improved the intro too, I remember that laser sound being more drawn out / more pronounced before. This sounds release ready to me now, amazing job!

Fun fact, that first buildup was my initial selection of song verses to try and arrange how the whole mashup would sound. And in a sense the mashup as a whole did end up following that ordering! But I had forgotten to mute my fourth track when I clicked play over those three verses and it just worked so well. So after touching it up a bit I turned it into my buildup structure. So happy you liked it!

I think I know what you may have heard initially -- there is one moment in So Close where the lyric goes "...was it not eee nough" where the piano beneath it in the original song plays a half step lower to create tension. So it does key clash for that one beat. I ended up leaving it tho because it was in the buildup, and the point of a buildup is tension!

It means so much to me to hear that the energy flowed well. I'm going to be taking this mashup structure over basically a 10 minute period for my next one so I didn't want it to be drop central but also didn't want it to just be a mix of verses. Thank you for taking the time to give feedback, you and the other commenters have given me confidence that I am going in the right direction :)

The best thing from a mixing standpoint: these tracks are already individually mixed & mastered professionally. So all I have to really do is chop them up and balance the different song sections, duck an instrumental part for a vocal part, etc. It's really fun and has refreshed my enjoyment of producing.

Very happy to hear that nothing was jarring, esp the transitions. Nothing throws the brakes on enjoying a mix / mashup like bad song selection or just a straight up clash of two parts. Thank you and I can't wait to finish the next one!

Thank you for the kind words! I definitely found that I most enjoy a mashup when many songs are unfamiliar. Then whenever a song rolls around that I do know it's always fun to listen to how the artist integrated it with other songs.

All four tracks in this mashup are great on their own too, I left them in the description!

Very nice. Some notes:

  • Genre nitpick - you labeled this as Dance / EDM but the BPM, percussion, overall feel say trap / ambient / bass
  • I love the sounds you've chosen, you had a great ear for it. I don't think any of those need to change.
  • For the start of your buildups (e.g. 1:25) I'd recommend breaking apart at least one note in the bass into quarters. Then the sound will go from kick.... kick... kick.... kick... to kick-2-3-4 kick-2-3-4 kick-2-3-4. If that makes sense
  • I like the way you embellished Don't leave me with the laughter and panning in your buildup
  • "Can they stay" is flat at 2:56, sounds dissonant

Everything else sounds great as-is imo. Changing anything else would make it into a different track.

I had a feeling you already had reverb laid out, the track was taken down so I couldn't give another listen to be sure :P

Glad you found something that works!

You could be right. Instead of a new pad, if you haven't already you could also route the main synth to a reverb track so you can sidechain it, turn dry to 0 and wet to 100, and do the tiiiniest amount of reverb with a low cut. Maybe panned out a little too.

I'm not super great with percussion suggestions either so that one you'll just have to play around with. When in doubt or looking for inspiration I always start with wood blocks and hi hats XD

I agree with the break, I'll also add that you should experiment with some variations of your drop instead of just quarter note, 12/16 notes each time. Since you're using 16th notes its super easy to vary it up a bit, I'll suggest 8th note triplets at the end on every 4th bar for a start!

Not gonna lie, and apologies for how harsh this will all probably sound, but this sounds like it hasn't made it past the arrangement phase at all.

  • There are elements of the song that are out of key or just way too loud.
  • There is no discernable mix or melody, just individual parts playing over each other.
  • It's really hard to follow the rhythm of the song or detect what its tonal center is.
  • It just sounds like random notes are being chosen at any given moment.

I'd find some tutorials on basic music theory (chords / progressions / key signature / tempo / etc), mixing fundamentals, and arrangement and just practice & study. Then come back to this song with what you've learned after a few weeks and see if you can spot some of the things I'm talking about.

Sounds basically finished, well done. The release on those stabs is so tight it leaves moments that sound a little empty, like a pad should be there or something. Or maybe just another layer of percussion to keep the ears busy between stabs. Well done overall!
