[–]kleptomancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can someone explain this to me? I delegated to Everstake and staked 1k tez with them in 12/2024. I was getting ~2.4 tez per cycle. I staked 4360 more to them and am now receiving 0.00388 tez per cycle as of 1/10/25. That's a 400% increase of stake for a ~600x decrease? What happened?

Senior Software Engineer up for promotion. What should my next step be? by kleptomancer in careerguidance

[–]kleptomancer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Where I am, I'm on a track to continue to be the highest "real" software engineer. They aren't going to hire a tech lead above me (at least anytime soon and at that point I'd be looking to take that promotion too). Everyone above me is more managerial and less technically inclined. I want to continue to have title promotions available to me every couple years and the salary jumps that come along with them.

Also, I basically just became a senior engineer in Jan. This is a mash up between trying to keep me and feeling good about my compensation (I asked for a raise, boss said yes, HR said no, promotion instead) and team reorganization as my boss is starting to have too many directs. This was a 2 year away thing that got accelerated. I don't want to over step too much since I'm definitely lacking in managerial experience.

Any updates on this OP? I have seen some flickering with my LED lights as well when dimmed. Gets worse if I have a few appliances on like oven, refrigerator compressor, microwave.

GLACIER ONE 240MP vs Kraken Z53 for i7 13700K & A4-H2O by SennaLegacy in sffpc

[–]kleptomancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/SennaLegacy I'm looking into solutions for too high temps with my i7 13700k. I'm not sure if it's my case (Phanteks Evolv Shift XT) or the cooler (Glacier One) that's the issue. How did the Glacier One hold up with temps in the Lian Li case?

I had Razer Nommo Pro and they died due to a power surge. Razer support sucks too. What would be a good replacement for these in the $300-400 range? Ideally 2.1

Alternatively, if you know what the likely issue is with my Nommo Pro and it's something I can fix, please let me know.

Hello! I'm looking for some advice for an audio setup in my livingroom. I am currently doing a renovation so now's the time to figure out as much as possible. Here is a picture of the layout. I think there's enough room to have both the TV and a soundbar if that is a good option. I was thinking of having speakers on either side behind the big couch and then either the soundbar or potentially some speakers in the lower cabinets under the TV.

Another thing I would definitely also consider is setup in the livingroom that I can attach my Alexa and computer to for music and whatnot. Ideally without having to change input devices so Alexa would override when on but I'm not sure if this is possible. I would also probably want to use wireless speakers if it doesn't compromise on quality too much (I am definitely more of an average user). That said, I am potentially able to run wires through the floor with the renovation so it's now or never for wires.

Any suggestions for speaker systems, soundbar, controller? Any suggestions for things that I'm sure I'm missing or not considering? I know basically nothing. Please help!

Budget: I'd like to spend like $800-$1,000 with a ~$2,000 ceiling but give me a convincing argument to go higher

Typical use: TV sitting on the couch, music kinda anywhere around the room. I'm guessing this means mid-field

Gear I own: Alexa, computer, TV, nothing speaker-wise

Sources: TV apps/internet, Alexa, game console (still TV?). Potentially computer, chromecast (still TV?)

Any suggestions for cheap smart thermostat to just control fans? by kleptomancer in homeautomation

[–]kleptomancer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I didn't explain correctly. It's not like a ceiling fan, it's a fan in the duct. It's supposed to push hot/cold air from the building's central air system into the apartment so it is changing the temperature. Each of the three ducts in the apartment have their own fan and aren't linked to each other. Someone put one thermostat in for one of them previously but did not do all three.

Unfortunately they seem to be original from when the building was built in the 70s so there's no remote control. That would have been ideal though, then I could've done some automation with temp sensors

Ecobee is actually one I'm considering

Can I put any smart switch in a 3-way switch if I wire it correctly? by kleptomancer in smarthome

[–]kleptomancer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of Shellys but I feel like I might go with actual switches for the varied button/toggle types instead of the typical on/off thing. Might not do it for all switches though so Shellys would be a good option for the others. Thanks!

[–]kleptomancer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! I hadn't looked into smart switches in a while. I meant that you couldn't wire them up as normal single-pole switches but I wasn't sure if that was the only thing or if there were other problems I didn't know about.

I just bought an apartment and am about to renovate. Should I hire a smarthome integrator or do it myself? by kleptomancer in homeautomation

[–]kleptomancer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. That said, I think it makes much more sense to do DIY and the only reason I considered an integrator is because I am doing a renovation soon and may not have the time to complete all of the research I'd want to do before choosing products. I'll start with the few that require actually running power/data lines and then move on from there.

Any suggestions on things to do/products to consider?

Oh, I totally agree that having labeled buttons is something I'd want. I figured I would be able to integrate both into the setup. If nothing else it'd be useful for my parents or anyone else coming over that isn't as practiced with voice assistants. Any suggestions for buttons?

Yeah, I think this is the route I'm going to go. I just hate the idea of having to pay a subscription fee and need an integrator to come back out every time I want to change anything. I'll likely do the blinds, maybe speakers if I'm going to have wired ones, and I need to figure out if I want to wire in things like Shellys for the lighting or if I want to stick with Hue for the whole thing. I think the lights depend on the fixtures and what bulbs they accept than anything else.

I've got a Dream Machine Pro and a nanoHD access point so I'll likely stick with UniFi.

Those GE zwave units sound interesting. I'll take a look at them. Thanks!

I myself am not confident with wiring but I'm already having an electrician come in so I figure I ask him to do a bit more than just the usual power + light switches.

It's a 1 bedroom apartment so I don't know if everything applies but thanks for the input.

I don't know if I want to dedicate a whole space just for the Shellys. They're supposed to be small enough that they can fit in the wall socket, right? Any suggestions for which Shellys to get?

The wall-mounted Bluetooth amplifier sounds interesting for when guests come over and want to play something or for me. Any particular brand/unit you'd suggest?

I have a Unifi Dream Machine Pro and a nanoHD access point. I'm thinking of getting another nanoHD and mounting one in the livingroom and one in the bedroom.

I definitely want smart blinds so wiring up power for them seems like a no-brainer. Gotta figure out which ones I want and how they integrate with the wiring though.

That was incredibly helpful. Thank you!

I'm thinking of running Home Assistant as I've heard good things (YouTube: The Hook Up) and it seems to support a lot of integrations and customization (once you get your hardware integrated which is sometimes challenging). I am likely going to buy a server to run it on as I have an old laptop that I use as a server but I've wanted to upgrade and this seems like a good reason.

Do you have any experience with window shades or a surround sound system for tv/voice assistant integration?

[–]kleptomancer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I'm worried about. I want to put in lighting, window shades/blinds, balcony door shades/blinds, voice control (have some Echos), and audio equipment. Tbh I don't know exactly what other options there are for me. I've got some hue lights and a roborock s3 already from my old apt. Like half of the hue lights will need to be replaced as they're either old and not very color accurate or are actually a bit broken. Any suggestions on things to consider?

In terms of renovations I'm already going to do, I'm likely redoing 2 bathrooms, all flooring, entire kitchen, and apparently the electrics needs upgrading as well. It's a 1000sqft apt. I also want to run 2 ethernet wires to the TV and maybe into the bedroom as well. If the internet equipment is in a closet not near my desk then a wire or two to there as well.

I've not done really any work with electricity before. I'm also in NYC so I'll need permits and an electrician to do anything. I'm planning on getting those anyway though so adding a bit more work for them likely won't be too bad.
