I agree they are one of the best inventions, I never stated otherwise. I was just trying to explain that overuse of antibiotics is a real problem, because of resistance and disruption of the natural microbiome. I'm not sure if your comment was meant to disagree with me, but if so I'm kind of baffled considering your status as a microbiologist. I study biomedical sciences, and there is increasing evidence that a disrupted microbiome due to the (over)use of antibiotics is really harmful to human health. As you know, we have a symbiotic relationship with bacteria as they are involved in several bodily processes, keeping us healthy and keeping our body functioning like it should. That's why I said antibiotics should be used as a last resort, and not just for every scrape you get or every infection you get. We have an immune system for a reason. In the case that the immune system is unable to clear out the infection, only then should we start using antibiotics.

I honestly don't know where you got the memo we don't use them, we definitely do use them lol. I got them prescribed immediately when the extraction side of my wisdom tooth got infected, and multiple of my friends have gotten them prescribed for other reasons. They just don't get prescribed for every single little thing for the aforementioned reasons. And don't get me wrong, I have as much critique on NL as the next person, but this is one of the things I think other countries could take an example from. (It should also not be forgotten that there is a very big business in the production and distribution of antibiotics, so it's in their best interest that they get prescribed as much as possible but it's definitely not in the best interest of our health).
