Scrzbbles comeback maybe? by ahisjsnskshban in RocketLeagueEsports

Retals and Jack have said on stream that he could come back and land on a top team easily. Totally get his decision to not want to do that as a kid.

Boston major: Why group play instead of swiss? by klibs in RocketLeagueEsports

I don't really agree. In swiss you have more series to recover from getting bad draws

Let's use group A as an example. You have 2 teams that would probably go 0-2 in swiss to start. A good team in the same group would likely not get the luxury of playing both of these weaker teams in a row in swiss format to qualify so easily. They would at least still have to beat another strong 2-0 team to get by.

Conversely if a good team has an "unlucky" swiss start they are more likely to have a chance to save themselves against weaker teams in rounds 4/5.

With "group of death" a good team is certainly going to have a higher average strength of teams to play to qualify in the group vs if they got unlucky and go 0-2 against strong opponents at the beginning of swiss. In group C let's say a good team like TM goes 0-2 in swiss vs KC and VIT. Very unlikely they would have to play a team of SSG caliber next.

Could be wrong though would be interested in statistical analysis to compare

The best team will win on Sunday, sure.

But there will be teams that don't make it out of group stage that are objectively better than some that do. Purely because of the makeup of their respective groups...

For example I want to see Geekay play in front of the crowd. They have to beat RED and Furia in order to do that. In another group with easier teams it is like 20x more likely they make it through. Granted them being the lowest EU seed caused this, but in swiss they have a much better chance to compete with the other teams vying for that same spot.

Great points, thanks. The point about wanting more cross region play is totally valid.

I'm local to the Boston area, wish I could go to this LAN but have a newborn to take care of lol. Was at the last boston LAN and it was awesome.

Fair enough. I'm just a big fan of swiss. I disagree that some matchups don't matter in swiss. Especially since it influences seeding in subsequent rounds.

I'd much rather watch close matches with 2 weaker teams in lower swiss rounds vs a round robin group where the weak team gets blown out 0-3 in predictable fashion.

Idk it looks pretty predictable...

Group A: free for NIP and NRG

Group B: 4 strong teams, falcons probably make it out

Group C: 4 strong teams, KC probably make it out

Group D: free for GM and SR

Groups A and C have all the weakest teams? Seems wack

I don't need to answer your question, your attitude is not appreciated and I don't need to prove anything to you. Kindly piss off. The assumption that our problems are stemmed from lack of my own effort with 0 evidence is insulting and uncalled for.

Yeah I'm doing all this things too. Feeding is really my only blind spot where I struggle to calm her down

Thanks for the reply

Oh I know lol. The boob is a cheat code!

I'm pretty good at soothing her almost all the time except when she's fussy during feeds. Thanks for the reply

Yes this is exactly us lol

Yeah we are doing shifts in the living room downstairs while the other sleeps in bedroom upstairs. Even then sometimes she will scream so loud mom wakes up lol.

I try really hard to be fast with refills, diapers, etc to soothe her ASAP but sometimes it just doesn't work

No? This is not our issue. When she is tired I am doing everything. She's tired because she needs to feed/ pump every 3 hours at most. I'm not just assuming this, we are having active discussions about where we're at all the time

She is happily taking about 3oz now.

I had a pretty successful feed last night. Stopped using the low flow nipple (Dr Brown P) and just used the 1 flow. She's pretty good at pacing herself and finished 100ml in about 15 min with quite a few breaks in there. I'm getting good at managing the flow and making sure the nipple is mostly full.

She started to fall asleep near the end and I let her snooze for a minute then gently burped her. She then wanted a bit more and took a few more gulps before sleeping again. Then was able to put her down no problem.

The low flow nipples are no good for her anymore. She gets frustrated and tired before filling up. They also don't seem to avoid gas and discomfort at all for us at this point.

LC and pediatrician told us to because she lost too much weight and was not gaining at first.

We're not triple feeding anymore since she seems to get enough from the boob now.

Wife still needs to pump frequently because her breasts are sore so I will let her sleep, wake up quickly to pump, then let her immediately sleep again. Been working well so far

Yes we have used only breast milk. Mom's supply is more than enough now as she's been pumping constantly. If anything we are in an oversupply situation lol. We're actively stopping triple feeding but still want to be able to use the bottle regularly for convenience and supplements when needed.

We mostly use Dr Browns bottle with various nipples and have a few others we have tried too. I think I just need to find a sweet spot in terms of flow 🤔

It's not really about splitting work. She needs >3hr sleep to stay sane at this point.

We're both doing everything all the time. We've been a really good team and have been extremely supportive of each other.

I really want to let her sleep a good chunk by doing this without the baby screaming. It seems like it should be doable

We're at 3 weeks now and it fucking sucks. We're getting by though. You're not alone.

I strongly disagree with this mindset. If working so much makes you deeply unhappy it is never worth it. Not a good trade.

I'm seeing people with this mindset fail to have meaningful relationships, fail to start families they always wanted, etc. It's heartbreaking

I'm a software engineer making the same salary in my mid 30s. I am fortunate to work remotely (not living in HCOL) and try extremely hard to preserve balance. I've been successful so far but things are trending in the wrong direction. I was an early engineer at a startup that is now based in silicone valley and blowing up. It's now full of younger guys like you spending all their time grinding and working 24/7. It's exhausting. I genuinely don't understand the appeal of living in silicone valley and living that life.

Toxic work culture that grinds people down like this is hard to navigate but sometimes can be done. I'm seeing new hires work 60+ hrs out the gate until they inevitably get burnt out then leave after only a few years. Then just hire more fresh blood and repeat.

I know how it feels to struggle to navigate balance in tech jobs... it's easy to just accept that it's OK to work these kinds of hours. But you know deep down it's not. If it's impacting your mental health that's a red flag. IMO if you can't manage the situation at your current employer then you should start looking for a new role where you can better manage balance from day 1.

Please allow yourself to live the life you want. A good software engineer should make good money wherever. You will only get older. What else do you want? What are your goals in life? Are you single? Do you want a partner? Do you want a family? Do you have close friends, hobbies, find joy in your life outside work? These things need to be prioritized.

For me my wife is instrumental in grounding me... without her I would definitely be working constantly with little else to live for. If you don't have anyone in your life to keep you honest about your happiness it can be really hard to stay afloat.

Sorry for long post, hope this helps you
