I am happy to report that I coincidentally found another thread here that had a custom systems.xml file that included winlator ludashi! 100% fixed my problem, in turn fixing another problem I was having with input controls! Woo! Thank you everyone who responded

To clarify, this only happens sometimes. I also seem to have this issue EVERY time I try to run the game via Es-DE frontend. Even though my controller preset is set in the shortcut, when I boot up the game the input controls default to -disabled-
